I've got a 2004 GE 40 Gal. Electric water heater that is starting to have some issues. Its blown the 30 Amp breaker several times in the past few days. I'm pretty sure it just needs a new element and a good flushing out, but I am wondering if I should just go ahead and replace it now and be done with it since it's 15 years old? From what I have seen at the local lowes and Home Depot it looks like I would have to drop $550-650 for a new one(gas not an option in my neighborhood). With the state of our water supply being full of lime and such(I've already got a whole house filter in place), Should I just flush the tank real good and replace the element? What do the Aldeer engineer's think?

2004 no brainer replace it. If it rust out and ruptures you will spend way more than 600,00

Replace, mine busted and cost me about 3k in damages and a new tank. From what I’ve read if you get 10 years consider yourself lucky.

Does AL Power offer rebates to stick with electric hot water ? I know a few years ago Alagasco offered a $600 rebate to stay with a gas water heater. Seems like the plumber gave me a certificate voucher with a number I reported to Alagasco with copy of receipt for hot water heater.

They will not if there is not an option for gas in the area. They only pay you to switch.

My neighborhood doesn't have gas either. Electric water heaters suck.

Hmm, what about LP gas for both situations.

My 2013 40 gallon Whirlpool has went to leaking. Severe corrosion on the water supply galvanized nipple and tank exterior. Outlet galvanized nipple not rusted. Any ideas what could be causing this? I hate to stick another one in to die the same early death.

$5k to run gas to other end of the house? That's some high dollar copper or one super long house!
