Is all this really necessary? I took my 8 year old lab in for rabies shot and turns out apparently she is falling apart cry

That's about what the estimate our vet gave us for cleaning our miniature schnauzer's teeth looked like.

I told them he'd just have to start eating canned food.

They did lab work, sedated and did a dental (tooth)extraction on your dog. And took dental X-rays. popcorn

Tax is cheap there. Ain’t no way I’d paid that when I took the dog in for a rabies shot!

That is not unusual. Our resident vet may be along to further clarify, but I can tell you that the Clindamycin is an antibiotic, which when I was a vet tech was actually prescribed to be given starting a couple of days before the teeth cleaning and finished after. The Rimadyl is a pain medication . To my recollection we did not normally dispense that with just a normal teeth cleaning but given that your dog had a tooth extraction, that is not necessarily unusual. We did not, as a matter of regularity, take x-rays each time a dog came in for a cleaning.

Now, my vet tech days were over 12 years ago and in Texas, so I am sure some things have changed.

So, did they just go ahead and do all these things or is this what they propose needs to be done based on the exam?

If I had just taken my dog in for it's yearly vaccinations and this was all done without my prior knowledge and consent, I would be furious.

Me either.
I believe you got someone else's bill.
Unless I agreed to all of that, I wouldn't pay it.

Since I moved back to Clanton, I took up with a vet who was working our cows and horses 35 years ago. We were both kids then, he was fresh out of vet school. So now we're old men and when I walk in the door he's like, "oh schit, just charge him $100 for being here"!

Oh heck that ain't nothing.Prior to the last cleaning for our dog they recommended an EKG because he is old.Unfortunately I let the wife take him to the appointment and about lost it when I found out a doggie EKG costed about $600.My doc does it for $150. Vets are rip off artists.

My dog is 14 and gets his rabies shot at the annual rabies clinic in the Family Dollar parking lot.

I like my dog but would NEVER spend $536.73 on him.
