Wife rear-ended someone. Pretty minor damage on her car though I know the dollars can add up fast.. We have full coverage and a 500 deductible. Any suggestions on where to take it and how to handle it?

It really just bent up the hood and the grill a little. But the hood won't open just because of how one piece folded over the other. No reason to think any frame damage or anything.

It's a 06 Camry that we will sell soon. Love in Chilton County but expect to have to go to somewhere in Birmingham. At least this side of town.

Damage to the other car? Was a claim filed by the other driver?

If so, then you might as well get it fixed right...you're paying your deductible either way.

Right. Those 2 aren't the same.

OK...explain it then. I'm certainly no insurance expert, but always up for some educating.

If you were to rear-end me. Your property damage liability coverage would pay for my car to get fixed. If you then decided to fix your vehicle, you would have to pay the collision deductible.

I have never seen a standard (admitted) insurance company for personal auto coverage that has a liability deductible.

I understand that's how it works for liability only coverage. Isn't full coverage different, though? OP stated that he has full coverage.

Even if not, it's going to be much cheaper pay a $500 deductible to get the car fixed than it is to pay out of pocket. Wife had a guy hit her parked car in the parking lot at her work a couple of months ago. Barely scratched the driver's side rear door. Nearly $1000 to fix it, though. Guy who hit her car (stand-up guy who left a note on my wife's car, given that she wasn't in it at the time) had to pay a deductible (State Farm).

In the collision / insurance industry the claimant is someone who was hit by someone else who is at fault - they are referred to as the insured. The claimant , if hit , has no deductible and the insured parties insurance must provide them with a rental during repairs. The claimant is not out of pocket. Also, the claimant can go against the insured's insurance for loss of value of their vehicle.

On the other hand , if I wreck my own vehicle then my own insurance will pay the claim, and I owe my deductible. The insurance company ( unless stated in the policy ) will not provide me with a rental during repairs.
