Most of yall have seen my 68 F100. This weekend the motor came out for a rebuild. Pretty much gonna be a frame off at this point. Way easier to take the bed, cab, and front clip off to get to what I need to get to. Planning on fixing the major rust while I am there, body panel rust may or may not get fixed, haven't decided yet. New suspension components, all new brake lines, fuel, etc. Got a buddy with a saw mill that's gonna cut cypress planks for the bed. Recover the bench seat. Motor is getting completely rebuilt. The bottom end looks good to be all original. As you can see, lots of carbon in the upper cylinders due to bad rings. Number four was running lean for quite some time, which makes no sense as it's the closest to the carb. Piston was burned. Number 6 didn't look so hot either. Whoever (I know who and it's not going back) did the head work, did about as bad a job as I've seen. Very poor valve job. These heads also came with press in studs that come out easily, especially with any cam or rocker changes. Well, someone took the time to machine down the bosses and tap studs for 5/12 studs. Why you wouldn't just go ahead and do them all while you have it in the fixture is beside me. But anyway, that will all be fixed. Going back with stock bottom end, very mild cam (you can run into dynamic compression issues quick with these motors), Offenhauser C intake with likely an autolite 4100, and long tube headers with duals. I've already put chevy 6 cylinder rockers arms (1.75 ratio to Ford's 1.6) . Hoping to get around 250 horsepower and 350 lb-ft. If you really want to go crazy, you can get 450-500 horsepower out of them but it comes at significant expense. If you turbo them, the sky and your pocket book is the limit.
I debated on mine. I originally wanted to get it painted to look like the day it drove off the lot, but now I'm leaning more towards a clear coat and keep it's patina the way it is.
