Had a table window seat on a rainy New Year’s Eve years ago at Baby Does. Lightning, fireworks over the city. About the most unbelievable supper we ever had in a unique place!

Or Joe's Ranch house?

We were members at Joe’s until it closed. My dad loved the steer butt steak. I bet my parents ate there once a week.

I’ve never been impressed at Ruth Chris. The 400 degree plate ends up cooking my steak beyond what I like it and the cuts are just “meh” for the price. They always give me a hard time about drinking beer at the table too, prefer you to drink wine at the table and beer in the bar area.

Same here, we ate there all the time. It was like stepping back in time.

My grandparents were members there. I was in my early teens though. I do remember liking it

Do something different and go to Highlands Bar and Grill, Bottega Restaurant And then you can go by a drive thru and get something else to eat on the way home. Five green beans doesn't cut it with me. We ate at Baby Does on the night of our wedding. They bulldozed it because it was a structural nightmare. But the location was excellent and I never understood why someone else didn't build there. I have heard great things about Perrys and will try it next.

Been there several times. Never had any issues drinking a beer.

This is going to sound crazy, but Linde Marie's in Cave Spring, Ga. Take your wife on a little adventure, and take 411 all the way to Cave Spring, Ga. and eat there. It honestly rivals any steakhouse in Birmingham or Atlanta for food and atmosphere and it's in a town so small that if you blink when you drive through you'll miss it.

Perry's is good, but it is loud. Not exactly a romantic atmosphere. Fleming's seems to be quieter and more along the atmosphere you're looking for. Ruth's Chris I think is the most "intimate", but I think their steaks suck.

One thing that always surprises me about the "high-end" restaurants is how loud they are. Never been to Highland's Bar and Grill.

Most of the high end places mentioned on here are pretty good food, and all about the same IMO. If you go to Perry's or Flemings. I wouldn't get the steak. Both places have an excellent Salmon dish, and Perry's is known for their Pork Chop, which could feed a small army.

Bull Pen over in Walker County (Oakman) has a good steak. But it's a country western type atmosphere. Not exactly romantic. But pretty good food.

Highlands. Frank got the James Beards Award this year. Order an orange thing. Actually have several orange things. Then go to the Blue Monkey. Best martinis in the country.

Perry’s steak is very average imo not bad just average very average. Perry’s salad is first class. I go there just for their salad. House Cabernet Sauvignon is made just for Perry’s and is simply amazing.

I hear Highlands is a great place for food and atmosphere. The group I know that ate there were all impressed. You are right there at the Southside if you like the nightlife.

Agree with above, probably highlands. Don't sleep on gianmarco's. If you can get a reservation, the thick cut veal chop is one of the better cuts in town. I don't know if they have it every night though.
