In a couple of months it’s my parents 50th wedding Anniversary. I’m having a hard time coming up with an idea. After 50 years of marriage, they pretty much got it all. Any suggestions?

Get them a weekend at a nice place like Ross bridge or some resort where they can relax eat and enjoy each other’s company.

If they are like most older folks they would enjoy a get-together/party with the family and to have the kids/grand kids visit more often. Relatives just don't visit like they use to. My brother has a assisted living business and he says there are a lot of the residents that never get visited by their family. When you get to be over 70 it just isn't enjoyable for most people to go to a strange place.

This. 100% great answer. Shoot, my wife and I are only in our 50's and we would rather spend time with the kids and grandkids than to traipse off to some weekend getaway or to get new stuff. An investment in time is a way better gift than any money spent. Even an afternoon grilling hamburgers is a good time for all involved.

Agree, but if you have the gathering at their house make sure your Mom is not stuck with getting everything clean and ready before and after the get together. Are they close enough to have the "family reunion" at a local park or maybe your church. Burgers and hotdogs are fine, keep it simple.

If I make it to 50 years, I hope my kids get an all expense paid, month long vacation, for my wife. We'll both enjoy the time away.

My parents 50th was 4 yrs ago. I rented out the majority of the upstairs area at Classic on Noble in Anniston. Geographically is was the best location. Just having everyone there all in one place was the best gift ever.

June 2nd will be 54.

For my in laws 50th I bought them my wife and her brother a train ride from Bham to DC then from DC to San Francisco. They flew back from there.

They had a great time and made great memories. The whole thing cost about $8k with first class amenities.
Lots of room for adjusting up and down with this idea

That was a kind gesture, but I’d rather be kicked in the nuts than ride a train cross country.

I never have, I didn’t go with them partly because I thought it would be good for them to do it as a family and partly work. But it must have been pretty cool, my BIL has done 4 other rides since and my wife is wearing me out wanting to know when we’re gonna do it together

If they live here locally dinner reservations to either Springhill or Acre. Flip a quarter to decide.

Find a local artist and commission an oil painting of their wedding photo .... or a matching pair of his/her Rolex watches, you can charge them to AU7MM08's account at the Ware Jewelers on College St grin

After 50 years, separate vacations would be a welcome gift.

Sorry guys but I was at work all day. Some great ideas. They live in Brevard N.C. We are going up there for the occasion. We will be doing a nice dinner that night. I was looking for something sentimental, short, sweet, simple. They aren’t the traveling type, so the trip thing is no good. Something they could use would be what they would like. The oil painting thing would be cool, but finding there wedding photos would be a fiasco to find.

I can't remember if it was anniversary or Christmas, but a few days ago we bought my mom and dad matching electric chairs. (I know, I know) 😆
But seriously they are motorized recliners. With the push of a button the chair move all the way up to a standing position, or completely back in a reclined position. My mom loved hers so much she slept in it often. She even slept in that chair, when we brought her home from the hospital, just a few days before she died.

You don’t know how funny this statement is to me. The Ware’s were close friends with my grandparents. Every piece of jewelry my father has bought my mom in the past 50 years has come from Ware Jewelers. I remember going in there as a child. Lamar was good man. I remember him vividly. For that reason, it is the only Jeweler I have ever or will ever use.

That is amazing! Very small world. I've been a loyal customer of theirs since the 90's when I was in school at AU. Even now that I live in B'ham I will still make the ride to Ware Jewelers if I'm looking at buying the wife something nice.

We gave my parents a party with a no gift rule. Seeing a lot of old friends seemed to be the best thing as they had a lot of stuff. Got flack from my brother the grump about a party but as Mom was gone not too long after it turned out great. They both seemed to really enjoy it. I'm glad we did it.
