I read to do that somewhere so I did it when I planted mine. Interested in hearing if it's worked for others.

I have heard of putting a sulfur tip match head in with them. I recently heard of putting powdered milk in the hole. It has to be something with the calcium regarding either a tums or the powdered milk. Just googled and it's something to do with preventing blossum rot. Powdered Milk for TomatoesAnother article which says powdered milk acts as fertilizer: Powedered Milk as FertilizerHere's an article that says Tums will not cure blossum rot: Tums and Blossum RotKeep us posted!

Never tried it...interesting.
Be kind to one another and tell the ones you love that you love them often. We never know what tomorrow will bring.

I use granular chicken manure and epsom salt on all my plants now and have very little issue with end rot. Now if I can find something to get rid of the stink bugs.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Tums is just used for the calcium. Powdered milk is just used for the calcium. Epsom salt is magnesium. Calcium from any source would work. I use Dolomitic Lime. That takes care of the Ca and Mg. You'll still have some blossom end rot, regardless of what you do. Tomatoes that set during cool weather or cool nights, are gonna have it. The first few tomatoes off each plant usually have it, regardless of what I do.
