Yep, persimmons always have those smaller "baby leaves" around the base of the stem. And as others have stated the lack of fruit probably means that the tree is a male. Persimmons are dioecious meaning male and female flowers occur on separate trees. Being a male tree makes perfect sense and obviously I should have thought of that sooner. Thanks for the confirmation of persimmon guys.

if you are going to buy small trees to plant, buy grafted female trees to be sure to get fruit producing trees.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

This is why I planted Fuyu over the american.

I don't like the Japs over the American for deer, the Japs stay on the tree too long.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Ol fellow near here bought a piece of ground. Had a bunch of persimmons on it. Gave it a couple of years, watched and flagged only the trees that had fruit and later cut put all the ones that didn't. He was pissed when he never had anymore persimmons.
