Is this a persimmon? Clearing out an old field that had grown up bad, but left it just in case. Didn’t see any fruit on it last fall though.

Looks like it...it may be a boy tree.

Sure looks like it. Being a male tree would easily explain no fruit as Dave said.

Yep, persimmons always have those smaller "baby leaves" around the base of the stem. And as others have stated the lack of fruit probably means that the tree is a male. Persimmons are dioecious meaning male and female flowers occur on separate trees.

Being a male tree makes perfect sense and obviously I should have thought of that sooner.

Thanks for the confirmation of persimmon guys.

if you are going to buy small trees to plant, buy grafted female trees to be sure to get fruit producing trees.

I don't like the Japs over the American for deer, the Japs stay on the tree too long.

I walked up and checked my little Fuyu tree a little while ago...it’s loaded, this year! smile

Ol fellow near here bought a piece of ground. Had a bunch of persimmons on it. Gave it a couple of years, watched and flagged only the trees that had fruit and later cut put all the ones that didn't. He was pissed when he never had anymore persimmons.
