took off monday to try to go catch some big spots with the river being up and rolling. i caught a bunch in the 3lb range before this one hit. i was throwing a big deep diving crankbait in some submerged rocks. almost every time the crankbait hit that certain rock one would hammer it. when that one hit i bounced the bait off that rock and it just stopped i thought i was hung until i leaned back on it and felt the headshakes. when i got it in the boat i realized it was the biggest spot i had ever caught but i wasnt sure how big so i put it in the livewell until i could get in some calmer water to weigh it. my scale bounced between 6-15 and 7-00 i kept it in the livewell for a few hours until i found another guy on the river with a set of scales his scales were back and for betwenn 6-11 6-12. biggest spot ive ever perosnally held the pictures really dont do this fish justice. the girth is just unreal.
hopefull the links work or someone can fix them for me
We will burn that bridge when we get there

Good grief!!! Can't see the pics/links, but a spot that big is a super stud! I've caught a 10-12 largemouth, a 7-10 smallmouth, and a 6-00 spot, and without hesitation I always say I'm most proud of the spot. Caught that one on Logan Martin about 10+ years ago in one of the old wildcat derbys out of PoorHouse, 2:00 in the afternoon on a Spittin' Image. I don't think I've ever seen a bigger spot, dang I'm jealous!

Beadle, those are great spots. Things to be proud of, for sure. Been fishing Martin for 61 years, and my biggest is 5.5 or so. Except for redeyes and shoal bass, the greatest fish in fresh water. ( in my opinion) Great fish, you caught. Just fileted 17 we caught this AM on swimbaits. Biggest may have been a little over 2. Getting a new fillet knife this week. Lol Good job. my grandmother had a place on the titus side of jordan and we would go fish martin at night it was fun but the fish werent very healthy

Great fish. Congrats. That is a stud spot for anywhere in the southeast.
Ya'll need to google search "Bullards Bar Spotted bass" and look at the images and videos. Those fish are ridiculous out there. There is video of them boat flipping 7-9 pounders. It is the jurrasic park of spotted bass fishing and a 7-8 pound spot out there doesnt even warrant a second look. i think one of the flw guys caught one that was around 11lbs. ive always kept up with them spots out there because they are from alabama spots stock from what i understand

There are so many spot's on Nealy Henry and Wiess now that it's more common to catch one than a largemouth.
I was fishing Wiess by the spill gate on some rip rap and got into a school once. Just like you was saying, when that plug hit a particular rock on the bottom , stop cranking , and then boom... they would smash it. We caught over 50 spots in a hour and a half on that rock. They ranged from 2.5 - 5 pounds. None that I can remember were under a pound. One of the best days I've ever had on a reservoir.
