Anybody poor their own crappie jigs? Found a mold that is pretty much a Bobby Garland baby shad. At $3+ per pack, thinking about pouring my own.

I don't, but have thought about it too. Bobby Garlands are great baits but I hate them. The plastic is too soft. If I catch more than 2 fish on one I consider myself lucky. There's a guy on crappie.com that I've started buying from. He's got good prices and uses a tougher plastic than BGBS are made from. Snake River I think is his username. His website is bobsjigs.com

haleyville al,
It would be hard to justify all the work and time to pour one style. Unless you spend 100.00 a year on that one bait. You will have roughly 100.00 to pour that one bait. And in order to do it consistently you will need to buy a production pot.

I’ve thought about it, but I pretty much quit using BG Jigs. I still use them some every now and then, but I use Crappie Magnet jigs more than anything. I shoot docks dang near year around and they hold up really good. I’ll buy them from There website by the 50 pack a lot of times when they on sale. It doesn’t matter about color when they stacked under a dock. So I’ll take what’s on sale, same way with lead heads. But it’s hard to beat Grizzly Jig prices on BG jigs.

Like I just got off The website, bought 300 jigs and 10 jig heads for $18.00 to my door and I promise I’ll catch a one man limit on them Saturday morning by 9 am. Give em a try I think you’ll like em

I have and do tie my own hair jigs out of squirrel and deer tail though. Cheap and they work great. Hair, colored yarn, super glue.

Be cam, it absolutely does matter what color you throw under a dock. That why i carry 2 rods. I use 2 different colors, once they quit hitting my primary color i will switch colors and start catching fish again. Furflyin, i too hated using a new jig every fish but i found something that greatly extends the life of my bobby garlands. Get you a tube of super glue and put it in your tackle box. Just put a smear where the hook comes out of the lead bait holding barb and slide your baby shad on. It’ll last at least 10 fish. A buddy told me about it 3 or 4 years ago and i finally decided to try it this year and kick myself for not trying it sooner.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

I agree TFD on swapping colors when they shut off, but to me it don’t much matter which color u start with. That what i was meaning. Just what works for me

I'd like to do it just for the hobby aspect, and the satisfaction of catching one on my own creation.
