I shot it a few times and the iron sights were on, well good enough to blow up a huge ant pile at about 70 yards. Handles great and feels nicely balanced, better than my other 336 in .35rem. Also happy it doesn’t have the cross bolt safety. I’ll probably put some kind of small scope on it before I give it to my father, his eyes aren’t as good as they used to be. May have to borrow it during deer season though, I’d like to see what 265gr Hornady lever evolution does to a deer. Man I can’t wait to see my dads face when he opens this bday present! I’m pretty sure it was 1975 when they switched to forend caps and tenon so it was made to pre-75 specs...Interesting. I think the studded front band was added later? If it starts busting band screws don’t despair. A high strength 6/32x1 1/2” with nylon nut will put an end to it. An 8/32 will require wallowing out the band holes a tiny bit. Some folk never have a problem whatsoever but I stress mine a lot. Does that one have a little metal flipper on the cartridge carrier to raise the back end of the cartridge?
