Long Beards will not cycle in my A5. For whatever reason they are 2 mm longer than the Winchester Supremes I have shot for years. There is flash back and burn marks on the plastic all the way back to the brass. Anyone else have this problem?

I would place a phone call to Winchester with an ammo question and Browning with an ammo related cycling question.
Beyond that I'm of little use other than suggesting trying a different flavor of turkey load.

How old is your A5? Is the load ring set correctly ? How long since brass ring and recoil spring has been replaced? When the recoil spring gets fatigued it won't eject light loads, when it's worn out it won't eject high brass. The best test is if it will eject light loads when the ring is set for heavies it's right. New recoil spring can be had for bout $20 including shipping, I just put one in my old standard 12.

Yeah, aren't the new A5's a completely different gun than the old ones? My understanding is the only thing they had in common was the name and that it had the "humpback" shape....

Yeah Gomer, I hear they're different on the inside, but I haven't seen inside one. I stick to the old Belgium models , I can buy two nice ones for what one of the new fangled ones cost. I know what I have with those.

The gun was built in 99 and has maybe 30 or so shots down the tube. Only used for turkey hunting. This is not my first A5 I been hunting with one for over 40 years. The end of the hull is not open, it is smaller and burned. I have 9 more, I will try them in my 870. Thanks.

Come to think of it, I bought some last year and patterned them in my Super X3. If I recall correctly, the hull was super sooty, but it dang sure ejected. Patterned pretty good too.

Does sound ammo related. However, the recoil spring is always loaded and could become fatigued after 20 years just sitting in the closet.

The longbeards is roll crimped and is a little longer than a standard length shell. I bet that's your problem and you're gonna have to shoot something else. I roll crimp a buckshot load for 16 ga that is a hair longer and my boys A5 won't cycle them.

Though the Longbeards shoot tighter in my guns, There was nothing wrong with the old Winchester HV turkey loads. I've killed a bunch with them.

May the sound of hounds never die!

I shot the longbeards last year out of my Beretta a300 and they cycled fine. This year, however,I shot a turkey with one,and went to unload the 2 remaining shells, and the last shell wouldnt come out of the tube. I had to hold the bolt open and press the button for it to eject. With that particular shell, I can also shake it and hear a few loose pellets in it as well which isnt normal. I've read some online about other beretta a300's having issues with the longbeards. I suppose it's due to the length difference. They dang sure have worked well for me though killing birds.

When the case unrolled, It looks like the end of the case went past the chamber into the barrel which is smaller. The end of the case goes in like you are starting a crimp. The case is burned on one side all the way back to the brass like the wad was restricted some way.
