Donlon put in $250 million a month ago. He's already lost $70 million with two weeks remaining and then playoffs. He's no fool.
The biggest thing in this is the NFL Players Association failing to support the idea of "if you're hurt, need playing time, on the practice roster, you could gain experience in the AAF." The players saw it as a demotion to second-tier after making it to the NFL, the best of the best. Even on a practice roster, the union hung tough. Without them agreeing and the owners being fully supportive, the spring league was doomed.
Vince McMahon is insane for reviving the XFL. He might as well burn his money.
The AAF actually had good people and structure. It just didn't have the NFL as a partner, which it said all along it wanted to do.

The NFL already has a partner, the NCAA. If the NFL was to partner with or support the AAF, it would be like growing it's own competition. No brainier there

Why did they choose to do it at the time of year they did? They should've waited until after March Madness, spring football games, etc. Give us some football in the late spring/early summer when we're starving for football.
I just wish they've put D2 and D3 college football in the spring so we'd have it year round. It would give tv exposure to small schools that need the money. I would watch

D3 college football....The top 5 AHSAA 7A teams would dismantle. Certainly that couldn't sell much TV time. Just saying You might be right if you’re talking about the bottom of the barrel D3 schools. I’d wager the top 100 D3 schools would beat any high school team like a drum. Huge difference between HS kids and NCAA athletes. If D3 and D2 were the only football on TV some station would pick up the broadcast, even if it were ESPN 3 or something like that. Especially for the teams up north like the UW schools, Mount Union, etc. Those teams can and do beat FCS schools when they play them. To the OP, I hate the AAF couldn’t make it. For a lot of those players it was at least an opportunity to play the game again.

Why the guy thought the NFL would fund/join/subsidize this venture is ridiculous. I didn't go out of my way to watch it on TV, but the few games that I saw - I enjoyed.

Heck, they don't even broadcast (nationally) all of the D1 games. One reason that D3 schools would balk at the idea though is that there is a higher percentage of football players that also play baseball in the spring. Interesting idea though.

Vince McMahon is insane for reviving the XFL. He might as well burn his money.
.
Agree Clem, but at least he’s enough of a business man to have capital on hand to run it for a year. He sold $20M of his WWE shares to fund it recently

At least he's planning to burn a lot of money instead of just $70 million. https://www.si.com/wrestling/2019/03/28/wwe-stock-vince-mcmahon-shares-xfl

There are 32 NFL owners and ALL of them are billionaires.

Vince already has invested a lot and probably will put in more. This was just a little bit of planning. He has 575 duzen-brazillion shares of stock.
He also is worth $3.3 billion.
