Anybody have much experience with this caliber? My dad used to have one but sold it many years ago but hear lately I’ve heard him bring it up again. I found an old 336 in great shape in .444 marlin and for a good price, $500. Well his 57th bday is coming up and I’m thinking about getting it for him. Kicker is he bought a ruger American in .450 bushmaster not to long ago for a thick woods gun. We hunt giant fields to small swampy thickets. So is there any advantages the .444 has over a .450 bushmaster? That’s in advance for the info

444 is easily a 200yd gun that leaves a biggish drain hole, no experience with 450. 444 is generally my go-to, unless I know any shot presented will be a longer shot, then it is the 7.5 creedmore's retarded brother, 308.

I’m a 444 fanatic, my baby is a Marlin Straight stock XLR conversion with the barrel cut to 20” with recessed crown. I have a closet full of different 444’s but this marlin and my stainless Handi get used the most.

I like my handi with a 6x42 for fields in the evening, they collapse on the spot.

I like the lineage of the 44 Cartridge as its the first modern cartridge unchanged to this day and the 444 prototype actually competed with the 45/70 in ordnance trials of the 1800’s

Thats a great price for a 444. I don’t know what year it is but if it has trouble loading from the tube or case jams while loading, quick fixes. There are no standardized versions of the Marlin 444’s, I’ve found so many differences from cartidge levelers (flipper) to ejector length.

In my opinion the 44 shoots through more stuff than the 45. I’ve used the 265gr Flat nosed Hornady SuperPerformance to shoot through small pine trees. I also think it shoots flatter than a 45. A fella at Haus of Arms takes Caribou and Elk at 350yards or better with the Thompson and MGM barrel. I only use mine to maybe 200 yards at most.

It will tear up some meat though if you ain’t careful.

That's a nice set up Johnny. I always wanted to like a lever but can't get a cheek weld with them due to the lower stock comb. I like the scope and mounts you have on that one though.
