I was referred to the office in either Andalusia or Enterprise. It was simple to process the application, never left my office chair.

Landowner has to sign off to correct?

If the landowner has to sign off, on timber company leases who would sign off? A lot of timber company leases are handled by leasing companies and I don't know if they could sign off, if you could find a real person to talk to.

If they dont change the law theres gonna be more hogs than you know what to do with. It will affect all other hunting. Not to mention the destruction to the land. They are an invasive species not a game animal and should be classified as such. A lot of states let you hunt them 24/7 365 any way you want . To get rid of as many as possible. Sows can have 2 litters a year with 10 to 15 piglets at a time. Not only do they compete with deer for food but they also eat turkey eggs. A lot of them get trap smart and the only way to kill them is over bait. My .02.

Shooting them over bait will not reduce the numbers enough to make a difference. The only true way to control hog numbers is to dog hunt / trap / and shoot the occasional ones you see. It takes all three to be efficient. The most recent studies done by Texas A&M shows that the reproduction rate of wild hogs are highly exaggerated by the media and companies that are marketing products for wild hogs. The average litter size is 5-6 pigs per litter, most sows have one litter per year but are bred back before the end of that year, and most sows don’t have their first litter until they are slightly over a year of age. I’m sure in a perfect environment with all the stars aligned it is possible to achieve the high numbers that get spread around but from my experience of spending most every off day I have in the hog filled swamps of south Alabama. You don’t see those types of numbers very often. I have seen very few sows with more than 8 pigs with her.

Very few have hog dogs or can afford or will invest in traps. Plus many older hogs get trap smart. So you are basically saying that shooting the occasional hog you see will keep their numbers down?

Land owner does not have to sign off on it. But you do have to show a copy of your lease.

No shooting the occasional hog when deer hunting or over bait won’t keep the numbers down. To keep numbers in check you have to stay on them 12 months out of the year. And I have never meet a person that owns/owned true hog dogs that would turn down a invite to hunt a property that has a huntable population of hogs. If you have a “Hog Problem” and don’t want to invest in traps or let someone with dogs hunt their property then they don’t really have a problem.

Where does it say you can’t hunt hogs over bait outside of deer season? I have looked in the regs and don’t see where it says anything about not being able to hunt them over bait when it’s not deer or turkey season.

Porkers are considered game animals in BAMA

Or just want to complain yet not take all effective means to remedy the situation. Just like landowners with a "harvest" quota on does, but they won't let anyone hunt and "hate seeing Mama Deer getting killed." Or landowners with coyote problems but they won't contact trappers or hunters for different reasons.

My experience shows that the average litter size is about 6. I was talking to a doctoral student at Auburn last summer. They confirmed my number. I was surprised. A lot of the "old" research is being debunked.

Check the current 2018-2019 Alabama hunting & fishing regs and you will find it on page 25.

This is in south Mississippi, not Alabama, where we can hunt them over corn. Since deer season has let out, I set up a feeder and have been bow hunting them and have killed 5 with my bow in the past 4 weeks.

Shot this sow in the picture who had a litter of 15 with her. Has another big sow during deer season that had 12 with her. Don't know that is normal, but the ones I've seen around here seem to have large litters with them.

I've managed to take out 3 of these little ones as well.
