I’m thinking it is. It started dropping its leaves in early September and hasn’t bloomed yet like the others in the neighborhood. What do y’all think?

Skin the bark if it’s green underneath it’s alive if not it’s dead.

Give it another month. I’ve got a red oak in my yard I would’ve bet $100 was dead last year. All other oaks had full foliage before it started putting on leaves.

I have 2 huge, seed dropping, surface root running bastages that will be cut down in the near future. Hate to lose the evening shade but half of one has died and the other one will crush the spare bedroom if it ever splits/falls.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

My maple is the last to show any signs of life. Give it another month.

Leroy, I hope thats a jap maple. If its a maple that will get big, you might as well say goodbye to that concrete. Terrible root systems.

Yep. Roots will tear up that concrete patio within ten years and you'll be wishing it had died in 2019.

It was dead so I cut it down this afternoon. The thing about that tree is my father in law planted it in that spot when we built the house in 04. Last summer we extended the patio by 9 yards and my wife wanted to leave a section out for the maple tree since her dad planted it and he has since passed away. I don’t know what killed it but I’m thinking that all the rain that collects it that bed and is slow draining is what did it in.

As far as hillmp goes everybody that knows me on here knows that I’m easy going and can get along with pretty much anybody. But you call me stupid or insinuate it then you’ll see the coonass side of me.
But then again I shouldn’t let a Internet dumbass piss me off. So my bad on that.

Thanks for the help fellas! thumbup

One of the guys I hunt with is a botanist and a tree farmer. I got a Maple from him and he told me they are somewhat hard to keep alive in Alabama. I think he said insects were bad on them. Anyways mine got about the size of yours and did the same thing. I love a Maple but I ended up replacing it with a Dogwood so I'd know when to go crappie fishing, which I haven't done since I planted it about 10 years ago.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

instead of skinning the bark you might be able to tell by how much flexibility is in the smaller limbs. if the branches around thumb size are brittle that might be an indication but if they're flexible and don't snap you've got life in it. skinning bark might do more harm than you think. also would like to see aforementioned ass whooping, smile
