Casey's Feed and Seed in Hope Hull, Al has a dang good deer feed mix that is 20% protein for $9.25 per 50 pound sack. I think the roasted soy beans are supposed to be 35%+

I've always heard that a deer can't digest over about 20%. There is a limit, but when you consider the natural browse and other things they are eating, the higher protein feed will hopefully bring their overall % up close to the max. That's why I think most folks like to feed higher protein feed.

If I was going to feed a lot of bags of protein, I'd be investing in summer bean plots (or other crops). I do that too but the deer on the Barbour Co.property don't utilize them much until the peas are fully mature (and the bucks have nearly completed growing their antlers) and then they mow them down quickly. On the Henry Co. property, they nip them all off when they break the surface and that's that.

If I was going to feed a lot of bags of protein, I'd be investing in summer bean plots (or other crops). Most folks that hunt leased land don't have large enough plots for summer planting to be very beneficial. Or cost effective when they get nipped soon as they get about 4" tall.
If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.
