Checking in guys! Looks to be a couple really good teams; we gonna have to get after it. Yekrut stacked it against us haha! Seriously ready to get after them and have some fun and hope we can all kill at least 3 along the way.

I didn’t think we looked like no slouches, but there were a couple teams that looked really good on top of team one. There are 4 less teams this year than last so hopefully that means 24 less people who don’t participate and teams we have are loaded with ones that will. Should be a better contest from the teams that are signed up.

Checking in. Looks like we got a fine team. Hopefully I will be able to contribute a few points but no promises. Don't need that bad mojo lol.

Good luck to any of you that get to go in the morning.! I will get a very quick hunt in the morning before baseball but he was on the wrong side of the creek/property line this morning. Then I’ll be hunting for the next 4-5 days!

Well it was quiet in my neck of the woods today. Heck couldn't even ambush one lol. Nothing but hens. Maybe they will talk a little tomorrow.

Yeah we heard 1 "maybe" gobble at daybreak, then managed to walk 5 or 6 miles without hearing or seeing a thing. I have some behind the house that are always around a big Greenfield. I was planning on waiting to hunt them but decided why not and of course not a peep or anything to be seen. My buddy who was with me got home and walks up on 5 right behind his house. Oh well back to work tomorrow and then off for 7.

Well we struck out today. Me and a buddy always take a 3-4 day trip at his place just below Montgomery. Last 2 years we have killed 3 in 4 days but we have our work cut out. They all have a bunch of hens. Heard plenty of gobbling today and saw some birds but nothing close enough. Going to get a little more aggressive tomorrow. Maybe we can seal the deal on a couple. Good luck to everyone this week!!

Still waiting on that first gobble. I know birds are here but they are not in the mood still in the winter flocks. Sitting here waiting on the sun rise.

We heard 4 this morning but only about 3 gobbles each. We wound up having 3 Jake's get to about 10 yards and saw 7 hens later. They just weren't feeling it this morning hopefully itll pick up a little the next few days.

Yeah, I figure by the weekend itll be getting a good bit better. Came really close this afternoon to a double but they wouldnt clear some really thick brush on the field edge. Had 3 Jake's come flying in and land in the trees above us, then fly back to the field just to fly back the next time we called.

Man it’s been a tough 3 day stretch here. Gobbling has not been a problem necessarily. They are henned up as bad as I’ve seen them at his place. We’ve been making this trip and many others for several years. We’ve never had a trip without a kill and it’s not looking good. Our streak will come to an end unless we can get it done in the morning. Nothing has gone the way we needed it to. Even tried to catch them coming back to roost this evening and the neighbor shot just across the property line at 6pm. The upside is even if he killed one; there are 3 and he busted up the flock. We heard them go everywhere so maybe we can get between them in the morning. Be back on my places later this week. Maybe things will be better there.

Congrats Redhead!!!

Well, first bird that was ready to die came dang near running in with 4 Jake's but wound up 15 yards behind us. He eventually walked off but came back when I called and my buddy clean missed him at 15 yards. He flew up and sat a while then flew back down with Jake's and hens and went back to strutting. They weren't very interested in coming back over for some reason lol. Oh well at least he didn't wound him and know just where to find him.

Congrats on the kills. I'm back at work for 3 days but will get 6 off. Just got word that they are finally starting to gobble just a few times on the limb so I should have better luck by the time I'm off. I'm glad to because I can't stand deer hunting a turkey.

Me and little man headed to camp for the next couple days in the morning. More to spend time just the 2 of us but to do some hunting too. Nothing much going on up here but we will be out there regardless. Off to Texas next weekend for the northern opener.

It was the best gobbling morning of the year by far for me. I went blind to a lease I got in a while back but hadnt hunted. There were quite a few birds gobbling their heads off this morning. This guy was roosted on the edge of a fresh cutover and managed to find him on the limb and watch him fly down. There was a fire break around the hill that went right to him so I was able to slip in tight to where he flew down. Didnt take but a minute from there. [Linked Image]

We put in a full day today, lots of calling and it falling on deaf ears. The birds have been here because anything that has a hardwood leaf on it has been scratched up. We are having a good time but I wish the birds would cooperate too. Best I can tell these north Alabama birds are all still in winter flicks, zero gobbles and zero cares that I’m a slutty hen needing taking care of.

They were fired up in cleburne again, I was running a little late getting to where I wanted to be near a big greenfield so I decided to stand in the young pines on the roadway. Sure enough 3 of them were roosted close to it. They gobbled their heads off and wound up in the field strutting all morning. I tried moving on them to 3 different sides but they weren't leaving it for much of anything. Oh well, guess I'll get up a little earlier tomorrow.

Good luck yekrut I'm sure yall will run into one soon.

Congrats guys!! Keep’em coming. Slowest start I’ve had in a while but it’s early so I’m not too worried yet. My birds will eventually act right here and I still have KY and KS in April.

Good Luck to everyone!!

Laying the hammer down congrats. Been working the last 4 days but tomorrow I have 6 off to spend in the woods. Last year I had 2 down by now but that's life and turkey hunting, got a long season to go. Just remember don't get impatient or mistakes happen. At least that's what I tell myself. Can't wait till tomorrow.

Thanks man, it's been a great week. I usually dont have great luck the first week but the birds at this lease have been on it every morning. I imagine theyll act right this week. Good luck to everyone the next few

I have to go back in tomorrow and looks like I may possibly get stuck at work the rest of the season after next week unless I use a bunch of vacation. I won't know until Tuesday morning but sure hoping that's not the case. Had a Kentucky trip planned too.

Congrats to all of y’all who have been laying them down.

Me and little man spent some time at camp and finally found some birds but they were off of us and still in winter groups. We made some good memories that i hope he will always have to look back on. We are headed west late week so I hope to fill a few tags and have a good trip out there. Still looking for a merriams trip late season.

Congrats to all of you guys!! I’ve had a tough go of it. I’ve had one bird that was workable and he saw something he didn’t like before I could get a shot. I’ve hunted all but 4 days and it’s been tough. My birds just aren’t acting right at all. Far different than it has been that’s for sure. Getting frustrated; can’t remember the last time I went into April without a kill but that’s where I’m at right now. I may have to “deer hunt” one to break the ice and get things rolling. Maybe this week will be better.

Itll break randy, it's been pretty rough all around here for most lately. As hot as they were at first they've gone just as cold now. Lucky to hear a gobble or two lately. Congrats on the trip yekrut, i really need to plan one of those Texas trips i always see yall talking about.

Heck yeah man, congrats. I should have had one this morning. Had him at 40 for 10+ minutes and a hen right behind me but he wouldn't budge from behind some pines. He finally walked off and left the hen standing there. Dang turkeys are nuts sometimes.

I’m taking my wife to camp this weekend to mainly get away just the 2 of us but to do some turkey hunting too. Honestly I’m amazed she said “sure I’ll go with you” so if I don’t come back she had something to do with it. smile

Was pretty surprised they gobbled like they did this morning. First setup some deer busted me and shut the bird I was on up off the limb. Got up to move and heard a couple gobbling their heads off in a cutover. I stayed on them for over 3 hours and had one to about 100 yards or so just over the hill, but I had to leave him gobbling to go pick up my son. It sure is hard to leave one that fired up. Oh well think I'll give him a shot Tom.

Got another one a little bit better looks to be a 2-3 year old. Bird gave us a go followed him all morning through a bottom until he finally shut up. Decided to try a few other places but came back at 10am to see if he had changed his tune. He litterally gobbled 75 yards from the truck. Grabbed my stuff and dropped off the hill about 30 yds. He came in drumming and it was over in under 10 mins. Funny how things can change so fast.

Congrats buckbrush. I got stuck at work the last 7 days, but I went on and took next week off. Hopefully some of those birds dropped a few hens off this week.

Congrats again to those who are killing. As much as I want to help the team out with some points; I’m starting to get a little concerned about ending a 26 year streak of killing. Dang I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m hunting too; usually 4-5 days a week.

I did get to watch my buddy kill his first turkey ever yesterday; so maybe luck is changing a little. Taking a day off from then today and will get back tomorrow. Good luck to you guys!! Keep killing!!

Found an upgrade this evening. I dont think I've ever seen this many hens still roosted with them this late. It seems every bird I know of has 5 or 6 rooster near by. Maybe theyll start acting right soon randy.

Finished up this morning. Saw some in a pasture our lease borders yesterday afternoon and slipped out there mid morning. Had a strutter in the pasture headed my way and another bird came sneaking in. Was a dang fine season but I'm gonna enjoy sleeping in tomorrow lol. Looking at either Tennessee or Kentucky the first of may. [Linked Image]

Hope everyone has been hard at it. Got another one today at 7 am and he is a good one. Not sure if I'll get another hunt in Alabama or not but it ain't over next week I'm heading North and west.

Congrats buckbrush. I'm hoping I get enough time to hunt ga a good bit the next couple weeks. I'm supposed to go with a buddy to the lease I was in last year that was loaded so hopefully itll be good for one or two. Went in blind to west point the other morning but only heard 2 so far off i couldnt even get a good direction on them.

Bird from yesterday. Had some nice hooks on him. I spotted this bird last week sneaking through a swamp bottom. Yesterday was wet and windy so I slipped in from above where I hoped he would be hanging out. I actually thought I heard a bird a ways off gobble so I yelped and before I got the second Yelp out he hammered 35 yds away. This bottom is very thick so I couldn't see him but also he couldn't see me. After about 15 minutes of drumming he finally walked into view at 15 yds across my left shoulder. I had enough folage in between us I knew I could swing on him before he knew what was going on. So I waited for him to drum and made my move and put the hammer on him. Very rare does the plan work out to the T in turkey hunting but this was one of them.

Well guys it is looking like I will let you down. I hate it but I seemed to be cursed this year. I’ve hunted harder than I ever have and have yet to have a workable bird. Even KY and Kansas have turned up empty. Sitting here in Kansas right now and we leave in the morning. It’s been as bad as Alabama. I have no clue what’s going on but it looks like a 25yr streak or whatever it is will come to an end unless I can manage one on the last day. I may be able to run back up to Ky for a short trip also

Randy we have all had them seasons. Congrats redhead looks like a good day. I'll be hunting Kentucky the 3rd and depending how the birds act I'll stay there a few days or head to MO and get a day or two. Then it's off to Nebraska for at least a week.

It has definitely been an odd year in places. The lease I was in seemed like most other years but I've been with a friend back to a place ive hunted for the last 5 or 6 years. I can only remember 1 or 2 days in that span we didnt hear a bird gobble on the limb, and they were awful weather, but today makes two in a row. Theres lots of birds here. Saw hens and Jake's, tons of gobbler tracks in the roads but not a peep.

Well tomorrow I head for Kentucky I haven't posted any birds yet because hopefully I'll get a few upgrades. So far I have 52.5,53, and a 63.5 bird which that one will prolly make the final cut. Good luck to those still chasing.

[Linked Image] Well Kentucky didn't take long to produce. Didn't stop raining till 8 o'clock me and my buddy doubled at 8:45. Wet birds ain't the prettiest but they sure taste good. Heading to Missouri not sure if we will hunt the last 2 days or visit family and then head for Nebraska or SD. The Turkey Blitz continue's and still trying to find an upgrade bird.

First day in Missouri was like yesterday in Kentucky very wet. Rained till about 9:30 and overcast. We hit a ridge line about the time the sun started peaking out. This bird and another hammered about 60 yds away. Me and my buddy tried to line up a double but couldn't get them both in shooting range at the same time and I was lucky enough to draw the short straw and pulled the trigger. He was a Monster at 25lbs w/ 10" beard and 1 1/8 Spurs. Found an upgrade bird for sure.

My little buddy has grown up it’s hard to believe we won’t get to Turkey hunt much together for a few years
He is off to college to play football in a couple of months so he will have a busy schedule I am just thankful he loves turkey hunting so much we have killed a pile of turkeys together since he started at 6 years old

Congrats beautiful birds. We are stuck in more rain here in Nebraska I'm done with wet weather. Hopefully it will clear up in a few days.

Today was my last day. We've been hunting Georgia the last two weeks and have heard tons of birds. We probably heard 10 or more yesterday morning but those jokers still have hens roosting with them unbelievably. They've been almost unworkable except right at flydown. They'd gobble but every bird we found had hens all morning. Oh well it was a great year in bama, good luck to yall still hunting.

Buckbrush are y’all hunting with a outfitter in Nebraska or public land.
I think me and my son are going to go try some public land up there next week
I have never been up there but we are not ready to quit yet so we may give it a go

We DIY on private and public. Bird population is very low on the private land we hunt do to a couple bad hatches and also we had terrible weather so we decided to head up North west to the Forest where populations are a little better. We found some birds even with bad weather but they were mostly on private land still and we couldn't make anything work. Oh well it is always a good trip and great scenery.

You should have better luck. They were henned up badly and you should have better weather. Good luck and make sure to roost a few birds before the morning hunt. Alot of ground to cover.
