I'd like to purchase a few of them to start working on the coons at my place.

What brand is best or what brand do most of you use?

Where is the best place to purchase them from online?

About what should I expect to pay per trap for them?

Got 74 acres on my place, how many do I need to buy and set up here?

I know I can probably find some of this info on the internet but I trust you Aldeer guys who trap. grin

I don't trust the internet. rolleyes

Thanks in advance for the advice and info. thumbup

Go to F&T fur harvesters and look . They have about 4-5 different kinds of DP’s and I have used three of the different ones and like the “push/pull DP’s . They cost a little more but are worth the extra $2-$3 more to me

I ordered mine on Amazon. I would start with 12 or so and put them around deer feeders with marshmellows in them. Dont get your finger stuck in them

No BS lures has them around $100/dozen. Ive seen the Dukes around $110/dozen and thats what I use. I've used some ztraps that belong to a landowner, theyre OK but I can set the Dukes faster.

Why do you need cable? Or a set tool?

I make 5'legths of cable with a large loop on one end and a small loop on the other to anchor to small trees. make the big loop big enough to pass trap thru just wrap it around the tree pass the trap thru it and done. set tool makes it alot easier for $6 I'd rather have one than not setting by hand gets old quick

Why not just screw a screw threw the chain into the tree? Screw driver works good for a set tool imo

because it takes about 3 seconds to put a cable around a tree and I dont need a screwdriver who wants to walk around driving screws by hand I make the cables at home and they last for dozens of catches what could be easier than that

Gotcha. Yeah I just carrie a drill in the truck pull up zip the screw and trap in and move along. I never move my traps though just keep em close to the feeders. The coons never pay that cable any attention?

not at all that's a big tree I usually put them on smaller trees so the trap is about 3ft away I'll scatter some leaves over the cable that's laying on the ground it's easy to move them around like that I can put out a dozen figure out the 3 or 4 that catch more often then move the others around fairly easy without carrying much around with me.

I have started I attach to a tree with cable or chain DPs to a concrete block since I don't have far to travel with my 4wheeler and the little buggy I pull behind it. Sit them around feeder or in trails where cameras show activity. I use the DP traps that have the "spear " type trigger and stick a big marsh mellow on it, and smear a little coon candy or some other sweet smelling attractant because I have some neighbors close by with cats I don't want to deal with, so I stay away from fishy or other meaty smells. I like to order trapping supplies from Fleming Traps, which is as I understand it is a family owned business in Alabama.

I bought a jar of cheap peanut butter and before I set it I smear it in the inside of the trap. Then put marshmellows in the bottom.

a small bag of dry cat food and a $1 can of mackeral lasts a long time. Put the mackerel in something resealable. Drop some cat food into trap and drip some mackerel juice on top of it.

My DP's arrived today from Fleming Traps.

Bought 12 of the Duke DP's for $10.95 each, 12 of the 6' snare extension cables with loops on each end, 24 quick connect links, a setting tool and a bottle of Coon Candy. Going to get all 12 set tomorrow afternoon after work. Going to bait them with mini marshmallows and a dab of the Coon Candy.

My partner in crime, Sadie, will be along for the adventure. Already got her nose into the Coon Candy. grin

With that long of a cable try not to set them on small trees with low limbs or you will have a tangled up mess. Paint white so you can keep up with them, its easy to loose track of how many you put out and where you placed them. Do not put them close together, I've caught the same coon in two traps a couple times before spreading them out farther.

Carry a wrench and/or a pair of pliers for the quick links. They work OK as long as you tighten them with pliers or a wrench. Otherwise I have had them loosen up if only hand tight. Even if you only hand tighten them they can get locked up with mud and sand and you need some tools to get them loose.

I just use a carbineer on mine instead of the quick link. Havent had a coon open one yet. They usually make so many wraps around the tree or nearby bushes they aren't going to get it off anyways.
