I have been doing a little piddlin in the shop too. I'm just getting started and no where close to finished.

It's a 77 F-150 4x4. The body is great with very little rust, 351M, granny low 4-speed, and has A/C (probably doesn't work though). My son will be 8 this May and this will be his when he gets 16 (we have some time). Plenty of ideas are planned (4" lift, 400 engine, 35" tires, new interior, new gauges, fresh black paint, handmade custom bumpers), hopefully we will follow through with them all.

I have a 400 engine located, just need to go pull it hopefully before the end of March.

Man I've always loved those old 70's Ford trucks. I'd love to have a long bed 4x4, but I just don't have any use for one to justify it.

That looks like it gonna be a great build. Love the pics of him up in there getting after it and learning something. Looks like a nice shop also.

Doing the same myself. The bed is at the sand blaster and supposed to get it back today or tomorrow.

Is the 351M and the 400 basically the same engine??

The 400 is just a longer stroked 351M. There is not a lot of aftermarket support for the modified engines, but there is a company up North that sells aftermarket pistons that will pump up the compression by a point. The same company has a proven build formula that should net 350-375HP and 450+ lb. ft. of torque.

I'm somewhat torn on if we should do a complete frame off, sanding a painting everything as we re-assemble. That's a lot of work to have a 16yo probably abuse it. Hopefully he will take decent care of it since he will have just as much time in it as I will. He is working on getting the engine mounts loose in the picture.

The plan this weekend is to degrease and pressure wash as much as possible. Next will be to disassemble the interior, take out the glass and paint the dash, door jambs, etc..

Nice builds. We fired up my stepdads 70 GTO last week, for the first time in 9 months! Had motor built a while back to a 468 stroker, it's taken some time but it's starting to come together...

Short bed 4x4 is cool as hell. I'd fix the rust, and leave it alone. You will sink some coin into a full blown restoration.

Yep you definitely can. Landowner i use to lease from has a fine 77 with 35" tires and just under 80k original miles, it's been kept in a garage since he purchased new

I love some old trucks... Ive been chipping away at a 78 f250 4x4 for about 3 years now. Swapped in straight 6 w/ 4speed.

Building it to use so not doing a full restoration, just getting it reliable enough to hunt out of and drag my boat around

If you get to looking for any interior pieces, glass, etc just hit me up... Ive bought 2 parts trucks to get stuff off of

The 240/300 is becoming one of my favorite Ford motors. Torque for days.

Nice trucks above thumbup

Here is my nephews 69 Ford. It was my brother-n-laws first vehicle when he turned 16, his father gave it to him. It actually sat in a field for 25 years until a couple of years ago when my brother-n-law decided to completely redo it for my nephews 16th birthday.

Very nice. I noticed the discs all the way around. Ranger's came with discs up front I believe. Amazing how much difference they make compared to drums. The bed of my 68 flareside is rotted and gone, so the truck is very light in the rear. Every time I get on the brakes hard they lock up back there. Need a bed and some adjusting.

Well I didn't manage to get the 400 pulled by the end of March, but I did manage to get it by the end of April. We got it out this past Saturday. It came from a LTD that had 49k original miles. We have finished painting the inner fenders. Hopefully this week we can do some wire wheel work and get the frame rails sprayed in the engine bay and the firewall. Hopefully I can get the 400 installed by the end of May.

My son has also sanded a few dents down to bare metal so I can get those smoothed out sometime soon.
