Florida just announced that starting next year that there will be a five deer limit and of those five only two can be does. That's a huge move going from a two buck a day limit with no season limit.

The lowcountry of SC recently changed their deer regulations as well(a couple years ago). It is now a limit of 5 bucks for the season. Prior to that, it was no limit. It was legal to kill as many as you wanted. It seems that there is a trend among southeast states to start tightening the regulations on everything.

central ala,
Ok. But can it be enforced? Alabama has a lot of rules and regs that can't be enforced such as a 3 buck limit. Or should I say they are so easily avoided by those who choose to that it's like they don't even exists.

The laws are no different than any other type law. You have to get caught for it to be enforced. I wont break the law so I dont worry about it

I'd be interested to know how much limits actually matter. I've never killed more than 2 bucks in a season. Even back when the limits was "a buck a day". The limits have never affected me because I'm never killing that many.

Just any other state with stricter rules and regs, they are for the honest hunters and not the outlaws. Comparing Alabama to other states is apples and oranges. I've met a lot of people since we started hunting there and most are some of the most honest people you can meet. But when it comes to hunting rules and regs they just throw that out the window and don't apply the rules and regs to themselves. I know that's the way they are and will always be. I've hunted all over the country and Alabama is the only place I've noticed this. As long as they do it on there own place and stay off ours, more power to them. I understand they don't like change but I see as no different then someone being a thief when you kill more than the limits allow. Most states have an ample supply of GWs and can enforce these changes and most honest people will work with the GWs to help catch the outlaws. Alabama kinda has their hands tied when it come to wildlife enforcement due to lack of agents. Our GWs do a great job on catching outlaws but we don't have near the number of hunters:GWs as Alabama does. I hope it works out for Florida.

Almost all of our clubs in NW Florida have a three buck per member limit anyways, so I don't think it will make a whole lot of difference. Not sure what it will do to our doe population because we have way too many.

I'll be 50 this year and have been hunting deer in Alabama since I was 12. In all of those years, I have only killed more than 3 bucks in a season twice, and those seasons were over 25 years ago and I only killed 4 in those years. That said, I prefer the freedom we used to have with no limits, even though the limits have not affected me.

I'm in a club in NW Florida and the way I read it if it's private land under antlerless permit program it's exempt from the new restrictions. We are this so I'm pretty sure it won't apply to us. We have 3 buck per membership limit restriction and require 2 does/buck harvest. We are not overrun with does and have a hard time meeting the 2/1 ratio but we seem to always get close. I'd like to see some relief on the doe harvest to build the population back up to where it used to be but I don't see that happening.

I don't think folks in Florida will worry about it too much. Most of the folks I talk to that hunt there have a hard time seeing 5 deer per season.

This is a quote from the Alabama Hunting & Fishing Digest put out by the DCNR: "Violators don't stand a chance. Airplanes, boats, ATVs, trucks, radios, and officers stand at the ready to protect Alabama's natural resources." With the DCNR saying violators don't stand a chance as we are now, Alabama doesn't need anymore GWs. Of course I have a different opinion, but they should know.

Now how can that possibly be?? Everybody knows that every person that hunts on the property next to them and in all other counties of Alabama slaughter deers with disregard to whether they are bucks, does or spotted fawns feeding on piles of corn and they get away with it because they ain't calling in to gamecheck ,so they won't never be catched by them green jeans!!!!

The stupidity and hysteria is amazing. But since there are so many peoples slaughtering deers we should just let them slaughter them easier with legal corn piles if you pay the state a little more money to do it!

I agree. The best Fl season I've had was 4 buck. And I hardly ever hunt anywhere that allows a doe harvest, so I'm sure I personally wont be effected by the limits. I did always like the idea that no matter how good of a season I was having, I could still go back tomorrow.

There are so few people that kill more than 3 bucks a year in Fl, that it wont make much if any difference.

I hunt in north central florida and the new rules will not affect me at all since I am not one of those that shoot a lot of deer. The only thing I wish they would've done was made it to where we could kill our certain number of does anytime during the season instead of only giving us a few weekends during the season to do it.
