I had a first today!!! I ended up catching more hogs barehanded than the catchdogs. Lol

First hog, Twitter and Harley jumped in an old cutover. They ran him a little under a mile and bayed at the edge of a slough. We slipped in close and got a decent video of the catch. After I cut the video off I grabbed the hog and my father in law was getting the dogs off. Well as soon as he got the last dog off the hog slipped out of my hand and I had to form tackle him to save myself from the ragging that would have taken place if I had not have caught it. Lol

Note to self: Wet leather gloves and muddy hog legs are not a good combination!!!

Second hog, Kate jumped in a bad briar thicket and was having trouble getting it stopped by herself. Ever since she got her back leg cut last year she has lost a step or two so we sent her some help. They ran it in a big circle for 2.15 miles before they got him bayed in the same briar thicket he was bedded in. We Started to them and the dogs caught out. He was squealing like a small pig so we tied the catch dog back and started walking. As luck would have it as soon as we got with in 35 yards they turned loose. Well I figured it was a small pig and didn’t want to go back through the briars so I rounded the end the brush pile he was backed up in and to my surprise it was a good boar with a mouth full of teeth. He decided he wanted to fight and came out after the dogs. When he came out he turned his back to me so I ran in a grabbed him by the back legs.

I thought it was a big sow at first but When I caught him and I seen his teeth I thought to myself I’m glad he didn’t spin on me. Lol

Great job - there is no way I’d snatch one without a dog attached to the head.

yeah, when they spin it is on... shocked

I had a 2oo+ pound boar throw off the catch dog just as I got to within three steps to grab him. He spun around and set sights on me. I remember thinking "Oh chitt". Just as the boar got to me the catch dog hit him again and stuck this time. All this in calf deep water, no way to run grin

I'm gonna be straight up with you brother, I don't know how in the hell you can walk with the set of nuts you must be toting to run up to a boar with cutters like that and grab his legs and flip him thumbup

Mine would have drawn up inside me so far, they may have never dropped again.

I was way too young to go, but I know these stories well -
When I was young (late 60s - early 70s), my grandpa, his brothers, and my uncles would go hog catching (they'd catch em and bring them home to feed out). It wasn't uncommon for farmers to notch the ears and cut the boars for the ones they claimed - but the ones without a notch were fair game. The dogs bayed what everyone thought was a sow, one of my great uncle's who had just a little too much to drink that night - decided he's just run in, flip it and tie it. Turned out to be a sizable boar - that when it twisted - snipped his index finger off at the 2nd digit.

Again I wasn't there, but one day my dad and uncle were out and the dogs bayed a thick area - my dad said, when the boar came out (over 300-lbs) - if my uncle hadn't of shot it point blank with the pistol, it probably would have killed my uncle.

You kinda look like a catch dog I had one time Caleb! Big and ugly! Lol! That paw-in-law of yours is a little Ol' sissy too!

Keep on sticking them bud! I'll be planting chufas on the new club in a couple months and need you and them hounds in tip top shape! We've got work to do soon as turkey season goes out!

Lol. Sounds good just let me know when you ready. Maybe by then i will have some dogs able to hunt. I got one having puppies the 15th, one in heat that is getting bred, two young puppies that have only been hunting 3 times, and got my best dog killed last Saturday. So I am shutdown till after turkey season anyways.
