Do any of y'all have any experience with shooting 130 gr bullets out of a 308 or 30-06 ? If so how was your accuracy inside 250 yards . How did they perform on game ? Did you get consistent pass through's ?

Only 130 I shot was a TTSX out of a 308. Accuracy was fine. Never shot a deer with them though.

Ever since I tore my shoulder up, my go to M1 Garand match load is a Speer TNT 125 gr. projectile. Can’t attest to how they would perform on game, but the accuracy is outstanding at 200 yds with little recoil.

Doesn’t Sierra have a game king in 30 caliber in the 130 gr range?

Sierra makes a 130, nosler makes a 130 accubond and the Barnes 130 TTSX. Of those, I would choose the TTSX and drive it fast if you consistently want a complete pass through.

nosler used to make a 135 gr Partition in 30 cal. I used em in my 30/06, accurate and performed well on deer.

This is what I posted in another thread of my experience with the 130 TTSX. in short, they shoot great, but I am still undecided on how i like shooting deer with them.

I absolutely love them in my daughters 223. She has killed 5 deer and quite a few hogs with the 62 grain ttsx. Some ran a little ways some fell right there, but they all seemed to bleed well.

I also shoot them in my 308, and I am undecided on them. I shoot the 130 ttsx at 3175 fps. They shoot well. If I do my part, the gun will almost put them into a half inch. I've shot 3 deer with them so far and they all died fine, but none left much blood.

The first was around a hundred yards. The deer was quartering to me some. I aimed for the shoulder and hit him just behind it. It exited in the flank then entered again in the ham and on out the other side. The deer ran right to me and probably would have fell at the bottom of the tree I was in. I had short stroked the bolt and tried to shoot him again. When the gun clicked, he looked up at me and ran back to where I shot him and fell over. Though he probably would have run only 100 yards, he ran about 200 yards and I didnt really see any blood. Might have been hard to find if I hadn't seen him fall.

The second one was shot quartering to me at about 100 yards. He only went 40 yards or so, but didnt leak any blood until right before he died and it wasnt much then.

The third one is the one that really got me to thinking. I shot him at about 60 yards. He was quartering away pretty hard. The bullet went in behind the shoulder and went out maybe a third of the way down his neck. He hit the ground hard and kicked around . I couldn't see him on the ground, but could see the grass wiggle a little for a little bit. I called my wife to bring the buggy and stepped out on the steps of the shooting house to pee. Bout the time I got done, I saw him get up and start trying to get gone. I grabbed the gun and shot him again, broad side this time. He fell pretty quick at the second shot and bled a good bit, but none at the first shot. If I couldn't have shot him again, I think he would have been hard to find.

I'm going to shoot a few more before I make up my mind, but I'm not sure I wouldn't have fared better with a NBT.

in behind the shoulder and out the neck is pretty shallow, ya prolly needed to go in a bit further back. Hard angle shots are tough to get all the boiler room goodies.

Max Point Blank Range with up to a 180 is well over 250. That means put the crosshairs on it and bang flop. Obviously if you are trying to shoot further 130's are an even worse decision.

What's the logical reasoning behind shooting 130's? Aside from recoil, youth, shoulder surgery, etc. Do y'all just want to see if a bonded bullet will perform like it is supposed to? Cut open the deer and analyze the bullet performance? Is that a thing?

I don't get it.

I probably won't be back on here today so y'all debate that.

A TTSX isn’t bonded. It’s one solid piece of copper and in my opinion is way too hard for a whitetail unless you get it going fast. I shot a couple deer with 150 grain TTSX from a 308 and was very unimpressed. They died just fine but small exits and very little blood. Insides were shredded though. The 130’s pushed faster leave a bigger exit and did more internal damage than the 150’s for me. They are longer and fly better than a lead bullet of the same weight so keep that in mind.
I shot a couple with a 110 grain TTSX started at a little over 3500 FPS in a 308 a couple years ago. That bullet has a horrible ballistic coefficient but inside 150 yards it hits like a lightning bolt. True hydrostatic shock when you hit one with something going that fast that will hold together at impact.

I agree. The shoulder was pretty trashed. I just wander if i had been shooting something a little softer, it might create more shock and be a little more forgiving for imperfect angles and such. Probably overthinking it, and just need to be more selective with my shots. I do love how they shoot.
