Any of you guys kayak fisherman? If so on average how far will you paddle to a spot? I've always had a kayak but I have started to get more into it. Thinking about fishing the G this year, I mostly fish wheeler.

May not have killed anything, but always a good time

Bought a couple for me and my son back in Oct.
Havent fished out of them yet, just duck hunting.
Looking forward to doing some fishing soon down here.

I have learned that Waves, Winds, Current and Tides
are not friends of a kayaker.

I kayak the river Alot in the warmer months. Usually catch a good many fish. If you look at satellite views of rivers, it's pretty easy to come up with a float trip to fit your time allowed. I like to go on 3-4hr trips. There are several good floats around here. Some places are easier to get in than others. Me, my wife, and my kids all got kayaks last year and we used them alot. We have really enjoyed them. I have not tried the lake yet, I've got a little larger vessel for that.

I fish out of my kayak a pretty good bit. Went this morning. I usually either fish Guntersville or float the Flint River. Sometimes I'll get out towards Wheeler, but not often. I've paddled upwards of 3 miles around Guntersville.

Yeah, well, I always heard there were three kinds of suns in Kansas: sunshine, sunflowers, and sons-of-bitches.

I used to be a kayak fishing fool before I got a boat. They're ideal for smaller rivers or streams. Float trips are alot of fun. They're the most enjoyable when you have at least one other person to go with you.

I fish a lot in them, but only in streams and rivers. You won't find a better option than a Jackson Kayak. Like most things that are real quality, they ain't cheap. They did just release an entry level fishing kayak that is a steal at $799

Currently installed a hummingbird on mine. I've got a boat but I love fishing g from a yak, especially in spring when they're up shallow. I've paddled some long hauls.

How's the Flint river? Always thought about hitting it but I never have

I have a peddle yak and fish the inshore areas and ponds here. my limit so far is two miles one way. The tides and
big wakes are things you need to learn how to deal with. Just get a good life preserver and never take it off when you are yaking.

I recall coming in the Destin pass one afternoon and there was a guy on a yak headed out. There were big sportfishers coming in and throwing a big wake and I thought there was no way I would be THERE at that time. Those things can be very difficult to see sometimes.

A large boat or barge wake can easily roll a yak. Been there done that.

where do you pit a large fish if you catch one in a yak? just set it in your lap till you paddle back to the truck? I'd have a dang nervous breakdown trying to manage all my gear on one of those tiny things.

Mine is 13', and I have front and rear storage. I have an ice chest in the rear. You could use a stringer, but sharks and gators may be a problem.

I quit paddling last year. On the lake, i will pedal my hobie 5 or 6 miles and could go farther if i wanted to. I love kayak fishing and i had a boat way before i had kayaks and i still have my boat. G Kelly, companies make fish bags up to 48 inches long that you can strap to the front or rear of the kayak, it’s just a soft sided cooler that is shaped like the nose of a kayak. Heck, I’ve got an 11 gallon recirculating bait tank on mine.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

I bought a two man 12 foot nucanoe about three years ago . It is kind of a hybrid between a canoe and kayak. It is wide and stable and has a stabilizer on it for standing up / pulling yourself up. A trolling motor mounts on the back and worked well for me fishing around st geoerge island and lake Powell in Panama City. I bought it because I’m around 250 pounds and needed something to keep my son and I afloat. I no longer need it as I got another boat now ,and will be listing it in the next few days in the classified section if you want to see what it looks like.
