I have some hollow points. It's my understanding that I should have something solid and heavy for deer or anything else similar really. This is a Ruger Blackhawk just used as a backup. So what's a good bullet? Seems like all of the hollow points are heavier grain than the solid bullets. Which doesn't make sense to me. What would you guys suggest? What's out there?

Good cast boolits work well.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Got to come clean on this one, his skull plate is broke. Think I shared the story back when I killed him. I was setting traps and he walked up on a dim road/scrape line that kind of paralleled the road I was on. I knelt by the back of my atv, rested on the rack and shot him at 30 steps.

He crashed, spun around and ran off. I moved and shot 2 more times hitting him at least once. When i walked up and saw the spread I almost chit. Then I moved his head and the right antler flopped. I don't know if he got the short end of a fight or broke it crashing into a tree when I shot.

I have some more pics I'll post if I can find them. I had the antlers put on a plaque depicting his true spread.

Was his left antler broke at the skull? And must be my eyes, but I'm seeing more tines in the second pic than in the first on the right antler lol

Left side looking at it or the deer's right side. Illusion on the number of of points. Look at the funky brow tine on unbroken side.

I carry a 686 with me when I go track it's a ton easier than carrying a long gun through we go through sometimes and it has worked well with 158 gr jhp and lead cast to finish one off and fairly close range

Fedarel American 158 jacketed soft points. I have not recovered a bullet but I have not hit solid bone just ribs.

They hit a lot harder than the 158 hsm hollow point and the 158 soft point magtech

You feel the difference when you shot the three
