Ground finally got dry enough to put the potatoes in the ground. Cut the eyes off about 80lbs of seed potatoes and planted 10 rows. Also got a 50ft row of beets planted also. Got 50 pots with tomatoe seed started today. About the same of cucumbers and some banana and bell peppers in some pots today. [Linked Image]

Kinda!! I just like to have the odds in my favor. Never grew potatoes before. My mission is to grow enough taters to make at least one good batch of fresh fried taters. Same wth the beets. Put in another 75ft of beets today. Also planted some carrots, 2types of cabbage and 2 50ft rows Laxton #9'peas today. I believe that if I put enough seed in the ground at least one of everything should come up. I hope!!

Gonna have to add those Desert Kings to the watermelon patch. I need to get the melon seeds started also. I love a good yellow melon.

I could plant potatoes here I guess. I'd need to just lay them on top of the ground. We're supposed to get 3-7" of rain in the next 48 hours.

You'll like em . more heart and bigger seeds make it easier to eat . They dont get REALLY big but they produce really well. Biggest one I've grown was 37 # . My paw paw grew them for 30 years. He grew a bunch in the 45# range but he had better soil.

I’d you like yellow melons try lemon krush from Twilley Seed Co or any of the yellow and orange seeded varieties from Willhite seed. Good deep yellow flesh and super sweet way better than Desert King.

I hope so. The neighbors will be happy. Got a lot of people that want to buy some if they produce. I told them I don't sell what we make in the garden but I'm sure the kids will. I give it away and they want to sell it all. rofl

Did you use some type of implement on tractor to create mounds?

Yes sir. I built a tool bar and put 2 single blade row hippers on it. Makes a fine row and doesn't leave the deep runs like a 3 blade hipper does. I put the bolt on adjustable brackets for the hippers. Make the adjust real easy. You can make the rows as narrow or as wide as you want. I also made a roller that I pass on the row after I plant. It covers the seed and flattens and packs the rows. Works really great. [Linked Image]
