They still have nascar races? My thoughts exactly.

I flipped channels last night and they had some pre-runner to the 500 at Daytona.........single file drafting shucks. I watched about 5 laps.

I quit watching when Stewart hung it up. He's why I shopped at Home Depot. Hated JJ in the Lowes..........avoided that place at all times.

Turkey - I was the same way, wouldn’t miss a lap and if I was the road I would listen to the race on MRN. Now a days, with the exception of the Daytona 500 and the 600 in Charlotte - I doubt I watch 20-minutes of racing a year.
All the rules changes and politically correct crap has turned me off. When NASCAR made the decision to separate itself from its Southern heritage - it lost.

I flipped channels last night and they had some pre-runner to the 500 at Daytona.........single file drafting shucks. I watched about 5 laps. I turned it on just as they were penalizing the two leaders for pushing each other. They called it 'locking bumpers' . I thought it was called racing. Nascar has lost it's mind.

They still have nascar races? Yes.....They just don't have stock car races anymore.

I honestly think the loss of Earnhardtt coupled with the points system change absolutely ruined nascar.

http://www.espn.com/racing/standings/_/year/1990This was nascar at its peak, in my opinion. Several factors lead to the decline, I think. With Davy , Alan and Dale Sr all dying in a short span coupled with guys like Gordon coming along , Nascar lost a lot of its base and did nothing but shoot themselves in the foot trying to appeal to a different demographic. Sure Gordon, JJ , the Bush brothers and the other metrosexuals could drive but most southerners couldn't relate to them and none of those guys could intimidate anyone once they exited the car. Nascar was a lifestyle brand and they screwed it up beyond recognition. There maybe more talent on the track today but I'll never know. I watched my last full race the day Dale died. I was already losing interest so maybe I'd have quit following anyway but that was the final nail for me.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Dega use to seat 100k on the backstreatch? Nooooooooooo. The main grandstands probably seats/sat 100K...but the backstretch is pretty much bleacher seating. Maybe 20K at best, although they may have reduced seating in the last several years.

NASCAR died with Dale. I haven't watched a single lap since then.

Neil Bonnett and Dale used to stay at my house in Hale Co when they were hunting there. Dale was the real deal, you got exactly what you saw, no pretends, no put ons, same in person at the camp as he was on TV at a race. He and Neil used to one up each other in a race to see who shot the biggest gun on deer. I think Neil won with a 378-30 Weatherby!!!! The world is a lesser place without those two. RIP boys.

A family friend of mine was the care taker of mt view lake in vandiver where the state record Lm bass was caught. One morning during the week before Talladega dale and Neil showed up on his door at first light half drunk wanting to go fish. He has a couple pictures of that trip in his living room .
I have some friends that have had a lease in luverne since the early 90's that dale had leased and designed prior to them getting the lease . Dale named it "champion hunting club" and they still call it champion to this day.

I like many of yall use to really enjoy nascar. I have a lot of great memories of going to Talladega races with my dad and paw paw. eating cold fried chicken and paw paw destroying some Miller high life's. The racing and drivers then till now is night and day. In those days it felt like the drivers where one of us. Now all the drivers are flat bill hat skinny Jean wearing hipsters that wouldn't be able to fillet a fish if life depends on it. Then you add on the fact that nascar turned it's back on the good ole boys that supported the sport whole heartedly it just puts a bad taste in your mouth. Trying to watch a race these days feels like kissing a girl that cheated on you. Just can't make myself do it. Racing seems to be a dying sport across the board. all the dirt tracks around here are closed or barley keeping the lights on.

Got home just in time to catch the "overtime" of Daytona. Pretty uneventful. Glad I didn't invest 4 hours watching that garbage. Uneventful? I didn't watch, but i heard it was purty entertaining as far as wrecks go
