Anyone on here familiar with the old Compton place in the town of Jefferson? Marengo County. It was fantastic hunting 20 years ago, but I think some folks from out of state moved in beside him and started shooting the world up. I hunted there while I was at Livingston University (West Alabama). I would love to get back down there and join a club or find a lease.

I use to hunt in a club down toward the river you turned about a mile past the country store. Best land I’ve ever hunted by far. Not sure where the Compton place is?

You'd pass by the country store, turn right and then take another quick right at that old church. I believe that is County Rd 21. Take that road for 5 or 6 miles (can't remember exactly), then turn left at Compton Acres. The land is back in there. Again, long time ago. But my dad would video me and my brother taking turns killing a doe a piece. We have an old video that shows 33 doe on one field. I'd kill the first one, the other deer would scatter and return with in 10 minutes. I'd hand my brother the gun and he'd kill one. It was unreal for a kid back in those days. Not sure how it looks anymore, but the number of deer on that place was incredible. We hunted with Ross Neely (Trucking Company) and his son Tommy and grandchildren.

I don’t know how the hunting is anymore but they used to cook a mean pork chop with sides back in the day at Compton’s store. I used to scout cotton on the Lewis place and always made it a point to get lunch there. Great tea as well.

I’ve never eaten there but everyone says it really good. I can assure you, the hunting was fantastic 20 years ago. I don’t know anymore, but I’d like to find out.

Ate at the store last year. Damn good burger. Pretty sure the folks that run it are Compton’s family. Check on Jefferson Country Store on FB.
