I like what they said their longterm goals were. Who knows, it may wind up making it.

Isn't this league (The AAF) associated with the NFL? Aren't they playing some games on the NFL network? Sure seems like it. I bet alot of the new rules get tested out in this league before being adopted by the NFL. They said that they were wanting to use it as an extension of the NFL practice squads.

From what I understand there are no field goals or kickoffs. No kickoffs or extra points. Have to go for two. There are field goals.

From what I understand there are no field goals or kickoffs. If you’re down by 17 or inside 5 minutes Of the end of game. Instead of an onsides kic, you can run a play from your own 28. You have to get to the 40. If you do, you keep ball. If you don’t, it’s their ball Spurrier is coach of Orlando. I’m excited about the league

I'm liking it. About the only flags are for off sides type calls. Memphis QB has been hit multiple times and no flags

Birmingham plays at 3 central today on cbs sports network You can throw out the record books when the Birmingham Iron plays the Memphis Express. So far it's kind of fun to watch. The football ain't bad considering these guys are all basically NFL rejects, trying to fight their way back to the big leagues. Maybe the dream of getting back to an NFL contract makes these guys hungry, the others maybe the passion of staying in a game that they love gives them some incentive. Birmingham looks pretty good just to be playing ball together for about a month. Perez the Birmingham QB don't look half bad.

Bham actually has a decent crowd there today. And their defense looks good.
BTW does anybody know why Trent Richardson didn’t make it in the NFL? Lazy, didn’t commit himself or just wasn’t that good at the next level? He was a hoss at Bama!

I’ve watched about a quarter of this Birmingham game and I’m not too impressed so far.

I’ve watched about a quarter of this Birmingham game and I’m not too impressed so far. A few things I think one has to keep in mind when watching the first weekend: 1. They are not the NFL, nor are they trying to be. So the quality off football will never be NFL quality. 2. They have only been practicing together for about 30 days for each team. 3. This is the first game for every team. 4. Most of these players have either: A. Been cut by an NFL team. B. Been undrafted by the NFL. C. In some cases never even played on this level of football before. (Such as Rugby players, Aussie Rules, etc...) I like some of the innovations of the new league such as the sound the way you hear the QB and the coach, and the TV coverage is pretty good.

I know one thing...
Saban needs to recruit the Birmingham Iron Kicker. He played 10 yrs in the NFL, I wonder if he has any eligibility left? We'll take him.

I mean I wasn't basing it off of NFL level performance or anything. I just turned it on in the third quarter and Birmingham coughed it up three times in a row and the QB looked like he couldn't throw it in the ocean. He finally did throw one pretty long ball that the receiver clearly dropped and they reviewed it and upheld it as a catch which pretty much caused me to change the channel. I know one thing.... I doubt Memphis wins a game, they are really bad.

TR is too big and too slow. Plus, I think he obviously has a tell. Seems the defensive guys know where he's going at the snap. they knew he was going in the endzone yesterday, twice.

Reason Richardson didn't make it he don't have the vision to see the holes ,also half the projects wanted to live off him. This is exactly right. In college and the NFL, if there wasn't a hole, he just run up the OL's back. He never figured out to explode thru the crease. Your not always going to have a big hole to run thru.

I'm probably behind on the times but I just noticed that Steve Spurrier is the Orlando head coach and his QB is the Gilbert kid from Texas that Alabama decimated in 09 when he came in after Dareus speared Colt McCoy.
Might as well go ahead and mail that trophy on down to Orlando.

How much money are these guys making? 3 year $250k contract for all 52 Punter same as QB $8,333 a game basically Yep... I was thinking when I was researching that, that the punters and the kickers have it pretty good. What, Birmingham's kicker had to walk out in the field 4 times Sunday afternoon and never even got touched by a player from the opposing team? Sounds like easy money to me.

As an 18 year old, Almost $8k/mo makes a lot more sense than college, for the guys that are good enough. I bet they allow them to play at some point soon. They can play I believe It’s an NFL rule, not a college rule that you can’t go pro right away

This league is being supported by the NFL, I doubt they'll take high school kids or even college kids who are too young for NFL standards.
