Got a Stealth Cam QS series on sale for $40 last year. I've had nonstop problems with it. The first spot I scouted with it, no pics in two weeks - this is when I learned about the "lock" switch on SD cards (what a stupid feature). Repositioned it directly over a small creek, and knowing this isn't recommended, thought it would be fine because the creek isn't within the camera's field of view. Got several pictures of the buck that was working that scrape and a couple does passing through. The problem this time was the stupid thing took NONSTOP photos and filled a 16G SD card in two or three days. The odd thing was there were chunks of hours that no pictures were taken, then spurts of nonstop pics. I adjusted the delay and still experienced the same issue.
The most frustrating issue, however, is that in video mode, it trips properly and records the specified length of video, but the videos are junk! When I open the SD card folder on the computer, it displays a thumbnail. Now, I've tested it in my yard so the thumbnail I see has me walking across the field of view. When I play the .avi file, however, I may see about a half second of movement and the video freezes. Also, it's a screwed up image - multiple frames of the same image in green or red or blue tint. Other times, it's a perfectly acceptable IR image, but it's a single still frame - even though I know there are more frames in the file because the thumbnail shows a different picture entirely.
I had a similar issue with a cheap Primos camera and gave it to a friend, thinking the camera was the issue. So did I blow money on this Stealth Cam or are the memory cards at fault? I've tried reformatting the SD card into FAT32 (the "default formatting"). They say not to use above 32G so I usually buy 16 or 32G SanDisks. Several of which are microSDs in an adapter. Could that be the issue?
I have a stealth cam that does the same thing. Don’t have issues with image but it snaps pics til it can’t anymore. Gonna attempt to contact them and send it back. I don’t think it’s your card.. have some other stealth cams that work fine.
I had a Stealth cam that worked flawless for 3 years. I bought another one last year on sale and it will not take a picture unless the animal is within 10 feet. Very frustrating. I have now gone with Browning cameras and I don't have that problem.......yet.
Yep I'm thinking it's the card, but I don't know. It also takes runaway pictures on picture mode. Like bdw32 said pictures are good images but it runs nonstop. New energizer lithium batteries, I know that's not the issue. Bought a faster card and gonna see if that does anything.
Still can't find anything from googling about why the videos turn out junk. I did see a repeating theme though, that most issues are caused by the camera not liking the card, and once you find a card it likes, mark it and only use those cards for that camera. Huge pain in the rear! My WildGame Innovations camera has worked flawlessly for me this season, so likelihood is I'll be sticking with them for future cameras.
