Situation: I have an older Savage 30-30 pump (yes pump) that i usually take to the woods for my 10 year old to shoot and i have carried it some when i hunt in the woods......so last hunt of last year we have a broken rack buck come out and he wants to shoot it (he killed a doe DRT one week earlier and gun hasn't been bumped or dropped) takes aim at 60 yards, squeezes off a round and the deer just looked up at us. Needless to say - 4 shots later deer just eases out of the back of the field. shots ranged from 60-80 yards. Took gun to range and it was off by several inches - rezeroed and onto this year. This year cleaned it shot it to make sure it was zeroed - gun was 4 low/ 4 left. Moved it and cut it down to 2L/2L on shot # 2. Moved it exactly the same as i did the first time. Next 2 shots do not hit paper.

Didnt have time to continue due to needing to get others in the woods plus didnt want to waste ammo when i had no idea......what do i need to check or do when i take it back out?

FYI - The scope on it is a Shooters Edge 3-9-40 and has worked well over the past three years. I have killed 3 deer with it and my son has killed 1.

In the lower to mid range a good option would be a Leupold vxr 3x9x40 and a set of talley light weight low bases.

Leupold freedom 2x7. Under $200. Mount it right, sight it in and kill stuff.

Scope and mounts. Vortex, Redfield, and Leupold all make decent inexpensive scopes.

DNZ scope mounts - second to none!! I would at least get a Vortex, Nikon or Sig Sauer Whiskey 3 for the scope

For around $100 it's hard to beat a Bushnell Trophy 3x9x40. I have a couple or 3 that have been mounted for decades and still hold perfect zero.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Sounds like a scope or mount issue to me as well.

I would be very suprised if Talley or DNZ made scope mounts for a Savage pump 30-30.

Maybe a nikon or for the money Burris Full field II is hard to beat.

Make sure stock bolt/screw is tight before chunking the scope

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

I'm with some of the other guys on here --- check the mounts first? If you already have a "good midrange priced" scope --- try to narrow down before chunking it. K. Bush has it right.
Screws can start to back out.
Then, again, if you just want a new scope-------no one is going to fault you for that, but even when the new scope is mounted, the mounting is going to have to be looked at too.

Do you reload? Are you shooting reloads? I'm not trying to flame you, I'm new on here. I'm just trying to narrow down potential causes of your problem.

We all know the details make or break a good day.

My suggestion, start small before going big.
