Almodux you really want a 125 grain .308 for 1500lb moose or alaskan brown bear perhaps 220 grain bullets out of a .30/30 for Wyoming antelope or mule deer? The purpose of shooting is hitting and despite the ink&bytes concerning the "all around rifle" I'd prefer AU's .338 with 210 Partitions over ANY .30 cal and 125 grain projectiles.Ruin some primers burn a couple hundred pounds of powder dig bullets out of gel&test media and you'll see it's no wild examples just reloaders comparing notes.Heck I'll even say Nick Saban's short and Bama fans expectations are unrealistic but .33 calibers&Nosler Partitions always work.

Only hits count.

Nope. I said nothing about what I wanted. I stated facts about current bullet types and construction, and what they’re capable of......and I didn’t say one word about what some more traditional, heavier loads were capable of. There’s more efficiency available to a loader/shooter these days than the last 5 decades. It doesn’t do anything new, but it can do it with less.....and it’s really not new. The old 6.5 and 7x57 shooters understood much of it, way back.

There is no replacement for displacement. However - That doesn't mean that guy at the red light... the one with the Honda and the fart muffler - isn't going to try to race you.

WDM Bell killed Elephants with ease with 6.5 and 7x57. He was big on shot placement. Obviously as the distance increases shot placement become more and more of an issue. If you are close enough you can kill something with a .22lr

I will say this though.. elk are notorious as a bullet sponge. Despite what a lot on the internet will try to tell you. A lot of them take more than 1 shot. Anyone that wants to shoot a pea shooter at them can go right ahead that doesn't bother me at all. But there is no denying that a .338 Win Mag will knock one's pecker in the dirt. Necessary? Doesn't matter. We've been arguing this for 60 years. Jack O'Connor and Elmer Keith both had a true and real dislike of the other.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
