Go to Serious Deer Talk Forum and there is a tracking dog list thread at the top.

You should be able to find someone from that list.

Sounds like a back slap.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I have a black mouth cur that has trailed for us before, but I would not put her on a list as a deer tracking dog. We are close by in Brierfield and are available.

Backslap, doubtful that buck is mortally hit. Jumped up and ran is not a good sign. I've had it happen too. If you jump him with the dog, a 12 ga would be handy. Good Luck

I haven't experienced a backslap yet but I'm tempted to implement my own personal rule if I shoot a buck worth shooting I'm shooting 1 more time for good measure.

i done a high shot on one that hit the ground and a few minutes later got up . i ended up putting 4 more in and then sat on a stump and watch him with his head up for a long time lol .

thing is when i dress him you could tell the spine was dislocated some . looked like one side was higher than the other . deer be tough if they get back up .

I’ve always done that. So much that they used to poke fun at me a little, in a club I was in, and started calling me “two shot”. I told them that was okay because they didn’t call me “lost buck”.

A good friend of mine form back in the day, that hunted with a 30-30, back then would keep shooting them till they quit moving. He tore up a lot of good meat but didn't lose any deer.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I had a friend like that. He put 6 in his first 8-point.

I've only shot one buck which was last year. He was still squirming so he got another 140gr bullet.
The last thing I want to do is waste all day/night chasing a deer all over and of course, the deer is going to run into the worse place imaginable for recovery.

Any update on finding him?

I lost one here at my place a few years ago.

I was climbing out of the shooting house to go to him when I heard a commotion and looked over my shoulder in time to see him scrambling to his feet and running off.

He had lain still 5 minutes or longer. Had no idea he wasn't dead.

Looked for him all that day but never found him.

That's terrible to hear but that unfortunate story further cements my now self-imposed rule.
