Anyone have any experience with this particular caliber? I know your limited to weatherby ammo, but I would like to hear real world experience with the caliber

Deer hammer. EXTREMELY fast (especially if you handload) and very flat shooting

Been reading up on it some and from what I saw it was like 3500fps with a 80gr ttsx or something like that?

Had a German built Mk V; very cool rifle and caliber. Guy I bought it from begged me to sell it back to him; I did and, of course, he sold it. Wish I had kept it. to go with my 257Wby B-78 and 270 Wby MK V.
It was a shooter.

Cartridge... not caliber. Caliber is .243 or 6mm

You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?

Prolly a good bit faster than that. A fast hot .243 will get you into the 3400’s with the 80 grainers

3500 with the 80 grainer. I had one for years but just didn't keep it because it was setup as a varmint rifle and I decided .243 is hard to beat.

I would personally get the .257 WBY over the .240. The ballistic coefficient is nothing to write home about on either one however the .257 is a much more versatile cartridge because you have heavier bullet options. You can shoot a 100 grainer 3500-3600.

I think .240 has never been as popular of this reason.

There's someone I forget the name making 131gr .25 bullets that actually have a really good BC.

I have e a 257wby already that I use a lot I have a 300win mag that after the 3 or 4th shot starts spraying them everywhere no matter the bullet used or even if I clean it then shoot it again. So I'm trying to decide if I would like to swap barrels and if so what caliber to choose

The .240Wby has a .470 bolt face and the .300WinMag has a .540 bolt face so if you did plan a barrel swap to .240Wby you need to plan on a bolt swap also. But any of the other chamberings on this list would work. My favorites being the .257Roy (which you already have) .264WinMag and .270Roy thumbup

Well I also have e a 264 already and I kind of been thinking of the 270wby also so from that list its probably going to be the 270 cause the rest just aren't as interesting to me and I appreciate the input and the list bclc thumbup

If I was expanding what magnums I owned the 6.5-300 would be getting my attention.

I like the idea of a 6.5-300 just not the idea of all that recoil.its pushing what 100gr powder? It's got to be close to if not more powder burn than a ultra mag and I shot one those once....once mind you and I don't care to go through that pain again

Ronnie Milsap saw that coming from a mile away!

You sure you're not getting paid by the 6.5mm bullet manufacturers to promote their newfangled fancy chamberings? grin

I have a 257 and 270 Wby; ballistics are very close to the same with the 257 pushing 110g and the 270Wby pushing 140G. Both of mine are zero at 325. Great for our 25 yd wide pipeline where the bucks don't linger and you don't have much time to think about it, Laser a tree at 350yds when I get on stand; point and shoot at anything between me and the tree.

I wish. I'm a sucker for anything in 6-7MM.

If I were replacing a .300 Win Mag it would be 7mm Rem Mag

Every new 6.5-300 Weatherby should come with an extra barrel. By the time you shoot it enough to find a good load and sight in your scope the 1st barrel will be burned out....
