I can't speak for the rod but I'd get a 25 series reel. I've got a couple of 20's and several 25's. I like the 25's better. Casting distance is better and they balance the poles better to me.
Which specific model St Croix did you look at? I'm kicking around getting a JDM rod and want to see what domestic rods might compare.

Ive got some of the pflueger reels but to be honest...them $15 ultra lights from wally world are pretty dang hard to beat. I like st croix tho..fine rods. Im still runnin 15 year old cardinals that have seen wayy better days but still do what they are supposed to.

The perfect crappie rod/combo's. St. Croix Panfish Series Rods teamed up with a Pflueger President XT20 or XT25. I stopped by Cabelas on the way home and picked up every spinning rod brand they had and didn't look at prices until I found the perfect rod that felt the best. Hands down, that St. Croix is the winner. Now I wish I hadn't gone to look because I've got to have a couple This setup sounds familiar. My next President spinning reel will be the XT model
