What is a tried and proven method of anchoring a normal 55 gallon Moultrie tripod feeder to prevent hogs from tipping it over and damaging it? My idea was to drive long lengths of rebar parallel to the legs into dirt maybe 2 feet, and then use rebar tie wire at several spots along the length to stiffen the support.

I would like to hear your experiences

glad you asked this. I got 2 feeders that have been damaged but I didn't have a camera there on them at the time. I was curious as to if hogs done it or someone. One had the whole controller yanked from the motor and I have couldn't find it anywhere around it. Made me think it was someone.

I may have answered my own question. I found a Texas hunting forum where a few people stated they had good luck with driving T-posts parallel with the legs as opposed to rebar. Some mentioned wrapping legs to posts with baling wire, some mentioned pipe clamps.

I’ll likely try this if put a feeder out after season.

The T post method is the best way the guys that run feeders around here have found.

Have mine secured with T-post and wire. Been in the same place for 14 years and never been an issue

Easiest thing I have used is to hang the feeder on a cable between two trees using a hand crank boat winch to raise and lower it.

this^^^^is what I have done. You can get the feeder too high for a big boar to rip the spinner off.

the feeder he is talking about stands on three legs on the ground, it doesn't hang in the air.

You have to take a threaded rod and run it thru the upper part of the barrel, put a couple of lock nuts on it and hang it from the rod.

I drive t-posts across mine like making an "X". Then wire them. It does two things. It keeps the hogs from flipping them and it keeps the legs from sinking in the mud.

I like to winch mine up so I can put it high enough that I don’t have to worry about it when the river gets out the bank.

Honestly I’m surprised that I have never had one flipped over but I don’t feed much either unless I’m trying to get a pup started.
