First time I’ve been squirrel hunting in about five years. I forgot how nice it was to take a break from chasing bucks and just go shoot some squirrels. Also, squirrel hunting with a suppressor is almost unfair, I killed three of them in about five minutes out of the same tree. You can shoot one and the others never even know what happened. Killed a total of 7, one was eat up with wolves and another got hung up in the top of a big red oak. Time to heat up the grease.

That they did. Growing up I always hunted them with a shotgun and my dad would always tell me I was supposed to shoot them in the head with a .22 so that I didn't mess up any meat. As a kid I thought that was just outrageous and that you couldn't actually expect someone to shoot all of their squirrels in the head. Well I don't stop and take time to small game hunt as much as I could and this is the first mess of squirrels that I ever tried it out on and I've gotta say I'm just about as proud of those headshot squirrels as I ever have been with a big buck.

So how are you preparing them? Fried whole or a different way?

Well I am torn between the traditional fried, squirrel and dumplings, or this new recipe that MeatEater did recently where they quartered them up and fixed them like buffalo wings.

It's a Savage Mk II FVSR 22lr, vortex crossfire scope, silencerco warlock suppressor, and an adjustable cheek riser from amazon.

If you fix them up like wings post the results. That sounds good.

X2! I may have to go shoot a mess just to try that.

I cooked some up like Nashville Hot Chicken, except Nashville Hot Squirrel. It was dang good. I'm wanting to try MeatEaters hot wings recipe, too. Maybe I should take a break from deer hunting and go pop some tree rats.

One of my favorite things is squirrel hunting, I just don't have any place to go any more, other than the nat. forest.

Man, this has got me wanting to go kill some squirrels....and the Meateater recipe popped up on my Instagram feed a few days ago too. I'm almost ashamed to admit, I've never actually been squirrel hunting, but that's gonna have to change. May be time to get the 10/22 sighted in!

12 or 20 gauge with Turkey choke and #6s will knock em out of the tallest trees

I'm sure it would, but I just feel like I'd enjoy it more with a .22

I just hate picking shot out of meat. Plus I like to just chill in one spot and see if I can knock em in the head.

You are just one county north of me. Be glad for you to go sometime. We'll probably get after them pretty good while the kids are out for Christmas.
