Is it too late to gly privet? Evertthing else has dropped it leaves and it sure is easy to find right now and single out.

Foliage has to be actively growing so I'd say yea too late.

I thought I read some article put out a couple years ago saying December was the best time to kill privet. Not sure if gly was the herbicide of choice though.

November through early January is the ideal time according to this.

You can generally spray privet any time of year, but many recommendations say to do it in the winter months because it has leaves when most other trees and brush don’t, which reduces your chances of injuring other trees. I would wait until we have a few days in the 50s and no
freezes at night.

If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

Would he be better served to hack and squirt with tordon in winter? Is the plant active enough in winter for gly to have a solid kill?

Any chance you get to spray privet is a good time if temps are above freezing. Gly or 2-4D both work for me. I've never tried the Tordal on it, but hack and squirt with Gly works.

Hacking and squirting works fine most anytime. But as dense as privet usually is, it may not be practical.

I can honestly say that if I've wanted to spray and kill something with GLY, it didn't really matter what time of year or what the temps are, it's killed it...though, I rarely go out and spray weeds in sub freezing temperatures anyways. Also do I rarely spray something that's "not growing", if I'm spraying it, there's a reason - b/c it's growing and I want it gone.

We always spray ours in December as it keeps you from killing all the small oaks and honey suckle etc
