Where do I need to stay? I have to go see dr. Richard Harris at on office park circle. My appointment is at 10:30 p.m. it’s a first for me. But with it being so late we’re staying the night. What do y’all know about him and where to go and not go.

Plenty of places on 280 to go for supper and knocking around. The Summit isn't too far away.

Mountain Brook is one of the nicer areas in Jefferson County. I don't understand the whole "your in Birmingham so you don't move around after dark" thinking.

I've been in and around Birmingham since 1994. I'd bet I know my way around all areas better than most. It's a freaking joke.

The Hampton in is less than a mile from your doctor. If you want to spoil the wife, stay at the grand bohemian. It is about a mile away. Lots of places to eat right around there.

There aren't many options for a hotel near your appointment location. Hampton Inn is very close and a fine option. Nice area. The whole 280 corridor is technically the City of Birmingham because they took both sides of 280 for business and tax revenue. Homewood on one side with Mountain Brook on the other.

My office is at Office Park. Hampton Inn is right there and has Wendy’s, tazikis, and moes Southwest in walking distance. The grand bohemian is a marriot hotel down in Mtn brook village. Really nice place w a few restaurants and bar right there too. It’s upscale. With a late appt like that is not sure what would still be open afterwards.

Stayed at The Grand Bohemian twice during my son’s ACL deal and it was very nice and easy to get in and out of.

I laughed simply because it's a good area and you should have no worries. Good folks on here from there that I'm sure would send you their number for advice if you did get turned around.

Downtown Waterloo is without a doubt the nicest place in the state. But if you need a doctor there you are SOL.

It's definitely a fallacy. Downtown is very safe and nice now, SoHo in Homewood is top notch, Lakeside District, Avondale, are all safe, enjoyable and a nice experience. It's no different than any other city in the US. There are good areas and bad areas but the ones mentioned above are way above average.

Bad area of town. I would look for a hotel over on the west side of Birmingham where its much safer. Probably can find one there with hourly rates.

Mtn Brook isn't in Birmingham by any measurement. Only danger out 280 is getting in a car wreck.

Phobia and fear of any part of Birmingham is pretty dumb. No need to be fearful. Just be smart. I've been in the roughest parts of the City (Bham Proper, Lipscomb, Ensley, Midfield, Fairfield, all around Elmwood/Titusville/Legion Field, Pratt, North Bham) on multiple occasions (not just driving,but working) and lived to tell about it. Daylight hours normally no worries. Although we had to have police escorts in Lipscomb for 8 days---group of 10 white people (construction, engineers, lawyers, quarry reps) inspecting claims of quarry blasting damage in the neighborhoods near Vulcan Materials--And again in North Birmingham near Walter Minerals and the Coke/Coal plant but that was out of an abundance of caution after the issues we had in Lipscomb. In Lipscomb there were a couple of carloads of thugs that rolled up on us and told us that white people aren't allowed there....seriously. They they kept slow rolling by every now and then. If we weren't looking they were trying to get into our vehicles. Vulcan hired police escort for the rest of the time.

So simple truths: Staying out of certain areas after dark and being very aware/make good decisions on where to stop/what to do in certain areas regardless of the time of day is very smart. There are pockets of the Greater Bham Metro Area that are simply bad places. So if you are there for a reason, just be aware and ready to respond as needed. No need to fear it.

Had supper at Mr. Chen's last week on Green Springs, drove past Samford, got on 280 and didn't realize I was in a war zone. Then I went to a hockey game at the Von Braun Center here on the weekend the same night a patriotic celebration was going on.

Not sure how I survived! Two downtown big city war zones! Hot diggity!

Mr. Chen's and Samford are in Homewood. Great food and school. You were about a mile away from the infested apartments on Valley Avenue though, which are in Birmingham. Glad you survived.

There's an Embassy Suites and Aloft right down the street, and Marriott Residence Inn right across from Brookwood Village.

I did have one of those lady joggers give me the finger in Mt. Brook once because apparently her interpretation of “pedestrians have the right of way” means they can dart across a road at any time. So, be careful of that. Other than that, Mt. Brook is a fine place.

Probably the most dangerous thing in the Tiny Kingdom is taking your eyes off the road to ogle all of the fine scenery in tights jogging around.

Sounds like he might be semi retired. Probably don't come in til 7pm,works til midnight. Goes hunting or golfing during the day and rarely deals with rush hour traffic. Pretty smart really.

I had a sleep lab appointment one time at 11:00 pm. I told em I'd be in bed before then, call me back when you get your head out of your ***.

I have both my back doctors saying I need another back surgery. Work Comp is making me go see this guy. They will have me go through another evaluation to make the determination if I need the surgery or not. I’ve had mri’s , 3 months of pt’s 4 doctors, 3 epidurals, cut on once with limitations. I’m better than when I started but getting worse. By that I’m not on a Cane like I was this time last year. I still don’t have feeling in my right leg and still get hung up a few times a day.

I will add. You are pretty close to Saw’s Juke Joint.

If it's the same Dr. Richard Harris that used to be at StVincents he was at least 137yrs old, 10yrs ago. I was referred to him for back trouble but ended up using Dr. Ed Kissel after less than stellar results with Dr.Harris.

Not sure where to stay, but get some smoked wings at Saw's Juke Joint and then a blueberry muffin at the Western Supermarket. You won't be disappointed.

As often as I've been in B'ham and lived through the danger to tell about it, I've yet to eat at Saw's. Gotta do that soon.

HAHAHA. On a first name basis with the brothers.

I called this morning they said my appointment was at 10:30pm. She said we can leave it there or we can change it to the morning. Now I will be there at 10:00am. Lol
