A lot of people want to go to a shorter rifle season. I don't like WW3 on opening day, any more than it already is. I honestly wouldn't mind it if they did. More than anything I just wish we weren't so liberal with doe harvests.

^^^^^^^^You are probably right. Gun season being compacted would likely be a stampede for the woods.

It is really hard to believe to me. Most of MO did not get above 25 degrees opening day, was 9 degrees when I got up at 5:30 and around 15 at noon. I heard three shots from my box stand from 1 pm until 5:30 pm opening day this year, heard over 100 opening afternoon last year. I hunted Sunday afternoon 2nd day from 1pm until 5:30pm and heard 2 shots out of a loc-on. Both of the farms I hunted are not that far from public land and it usually sounds like WW2 opening weekend there and the surrounding farms. I did not hear any shots fired at the house either morning before I went hunting, which is very unusual because I usually hear at least 20-30 .
It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

I heard probably 75 shots between 8am and 10am Saturday. Another 20 or so from 3-4:30. Not many Sunday morning, maybe 5-10

Did u guys look at the map to see how many were killed in the county u were in? I stay up with it daily, sometimes every few hours if I am not hunting. That is why I said It is really hard for me to believe. In the county I live in reported that we killed over 500 more deer opening weekend this year that we did last year opening weekend. Our map is updated three to four times an hour. Open the link below and hover over a county to see the county's name and harvest numbers. https://huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species/deer/deer-harvest-reports/deer-harvest-map
