This is probably a case of not understanding your crowd, but any of y'all done any ice fishing? I'm looking into it this year and am seeking advice. Seems relatively cheap to get into but quite expensive to do it right. Either way it has my interest. If you didn't know, I'm in Colorado. If I can get out and go, I'll try to document it to share here. If I can figure it out, I'd be happy to host folks who want to come out and give it a shot.

I ain't ever had the opportunity to try it, but given the chance, I would in a heartbeat. I'd suggest either placing a pile of structure exactly where you can find it, or finding some now on the water so you'll be able to fish right over the top of it.

My dad n friends went once while we were at ft carson. They went to some res far west, maybe across the divide? Blind drilled to dirt...twice. Went "way" out, drilled to water...then commenced to wearing out the trout and a land locked salmon? Did it on my garlic cheese concoction. I was in the 6th grade. They carried 5gal buckets to the truck till they got scared. Soon as the packed up, 2 guys that'd been watching them came over, asked for the cheese...dropped in the hole and kept wearing them out. He wouldnt let me skip that day. slap

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

It was truly one of the most miserable days of my life.

The lady in the box with us kept turning the heater on then off then on then off. The hole you pull the fish through is as big around as a solo cup, what they call a depth finder is what we call a bobber walleye tasted good but just like bass or crappie, we were dropped off at 8am picked up at 4 dropped bait in the same hole all day long. The headache I got afterwards was the worst migraine I have ever had, I would have jumped out the window and ended it all but there was about 6 ft of snow on the ground so I figured it would just cushion my fall and make me cold so I ate about 20 advil instead and finally fell asleep. Btw snow mobiles are the devil. The next morning I found a plane to take me to Minneapolis airport 3 days early and got my butt back to alabama.

Ben2, with your headache, did you keep hydrated? (with water not beer or coffee!) Folks tend to drink too much hot stuff in the cold like coffee instead of water. Dehydration can make you cold also.

It can be a heck of a good time. I'm born and raised in the south but all my folks are up in WI and MN and they're big into it. I may be a little spoiled because one of my cousins owns a bait shop up there so when I've gone in the past I get the insider expert's help. smile

I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I've never done it. I'd probably be more of a hinderance than help

You can put a wood stove in a small shack on top of 12" ice and not risk falling in.
Ive seen some real fancy ice chantis, and some folks camp out there for weeks at a time.

Man that's very kind of you to offer. I don't know how I could swing a trip out there, but I'll dang sure keep it in mind and see if I can.

C'mon. Got good internets so you can talk smack on here too. Come now and we can slay an Elk. Do some trout fishing then move to the ice.
