I can't give you a technical answer for your question, but that puff of smoke out of the barrel is what I love about smokepole hunting.
When the smoke clears,, hoping to see a white belly...
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Reasonable prices and smokeless don’t belong in the same sentence. Before Savage got out of the Smokeless muzzle loader business it was about the same price. They are not making them anymore so this really drives up the cost. I have a Savage Stainless with a laminate stock that shoots smokeless. I doubt very seriously you could buy the same gun used for less than 1500.00 today. To my knowledge the only way you can shoot smokeless powder with out a Savage is to have it custom built.

To answer your question there is no comparison to make. Smokeless powder is far superior to any other powder that’s on the market. Advantages are less cleaning more accurate. I can pull the cap off mine and leave it loaded to next hunting season with no issues. Accuracy is way better.

I know a guy that put smokeless in a black powder rifle lost his hand and most of his arm. He was lucky to survive. It should be common sense but. It’s best to keep the two far away from each other.

Very good point. You CANNOT put smokeless powder in your normal muzzleloader. It WILL blow up. There was a Savage ML2 Smokeless in the classifieds the other day. I think he was asking 1200.00 for it. You won’t lose money on it. Remember they don’t make them anymore.

I still own a couple of traditional black powder guns, but unless my sons get them out to shoot them, clean them, etc....they will never be used again. Smokeless is the only way to go.

Why did they stop making them? If I had to guess the lawyers forced them out of the market.

What got it all started was a disgruntled former Savage employee. He started loading hotter and hotter loads and finally got a breech plug to fail. That caused lawsuits and Savage decided it wasn’t worth it a quit making them. The TRUTH is if you load them according to Savages load chart they are completely safe. I would not be afraid to let my granddaughter shoot mine as much as she wants to. I’m that confident it’s safe. The main think is to load them with the correct powder and amount of powder.

I still own a couple of traditional black powder guns, but unless my sons get them out to shoot them, clean them, etc....they will never be used again. Smokeless is the only way to go. Obviously y’all are talking black powder or smokeless in modern guns but I have went the opposite way. I was one of the first to jump in the band wagon when the the Knight inlines came out. It’s needless to point out the many advantages to them and no one can question the fact they are superior in most way compared to the tradition side lock guns. However I have two inlines in the gun safe that haven’t been shot in several years due to the fact I just don’t see any sport to them for me personally but everyone has different reasons for hunting and the equipment they use. I harvest a deer a few years back with my flintlock and probably will never pick up the inlines again. My goel this season is to harvest a deer with my Hawkins rifle Dad bought me as a kid. Tn muzzleloader season is short so if I get desperate to kill a deer, I’ll just grab the rifle it’s far superior to any muzzleloader.
