I recognize everyone’s name except highlander! Looks like we have a well rounded team! I’m working Aton right now, but after this shutdown I should be able to put some time in a tree!

I PM'd Highlander. No response yet. He has only posted 147 times on Aldeer and 5 times since August. The team I was on last year had 2 guys that identified when teams were chosen never to resurface again. Really handicaps a team when this happens. To early to scratch him off but this is the luck of the draw in this thing.

This to me is the biggest bummer when dudes sign up but lose interest or abandon their team.

This seems to happen to my team EVERY year. I don't think I have ever (in probably 8 years) had a completely present team.

If I am running this next year, I plan to make changes that will prevent this problem. I understand the frustration all too well. I've been on teams that had more than one person not show up. I hope highlander makes his presence. Some folks are pretty busy though.

I agree 100%. Good name. Look forward to this year. Been really busy with grandkids lately and will share more later. Haven't had a chance to hunt yet due to family obligations but will get in the woods hopefully by next weekend.

Great job there Slayinbucks 24/7. When you get a chance share the story with us. Maybe us novice hunters can learn something from your experience.

Way to go SB24/7. I got to go one afternoon this weekend and it was a bust. One doe and a fawn was all I saw.

I'm back home in Tampa now, so I won't be in the woods for a couple weeks. Sorry I couldn't get us a buck on opening week. I did manage to shoot four pigs but I don't think we get any points for those..

'with all 6 of us in the hunt, if we all kill an 8 point plus a doe we can accumulate 113 points which won this thing last year. With that being said, I know it is harder than it sounds. But an idea of what we need to do to win this thing.

I got blanked last year(all my fault) so I plan on shooting the first doe and being a little selective on a buck.

Those are good deer. The problem that I ran into last year is I have a good buck walk by and I think to myself, "Dang that would be a good one for Savannah (12 year old daughter) or Wynne (10 year old son)" and I end up letting them walk. I will try not to do that this year so I can kill something and get us some points. I haven't shot a deer in 3 years but I have let my kids shoot 4 good 8 points. I wish we could use a deer that our child killed if we were sitting with them.

Will track deer in Marengo, Greene, Sumter, Wilcox, Perry, Hale counties.

I haven't been in the woods yet and the way it's looking I won't get to hunt here before Thanksgiving. Maybe Kansas will be good to me this year.

My cousin also lives in Tampa. He drives up to Dallas County and hunts with me a few times every year.

I know a bunch of guys from this area that drive up there to hunt. Takes me about 6-7 hours to get to camp,so isn't too terribly bad. I love it up there. Real nice change from the daily grind in Tampa. I work downtown,so an escape from the concrete jungle is always welcomed.

Last season I hunted one deer! All season and ended up not getting him... hopefully he shows up this season, he didn’t show up last year til end of bow season. But he is a very big ten pt. That don’t move in the daylight much at all, but moves around a lot each week of the rut

My cousin used to be a St Petersburg cop. A damn good one too. He's retired now. Takes him 9 hours to get to our place.

Hey guys. Had a busy week with work and family life. Got to hunt this morning for the first time this season. Scouted this new spot a few days ago and found deer sing and white oak acorns so I thought I would give it a try this morning. However, the deer decided not to show. May be next Saturday before I can go again.

I saw in another post that you Slayinbucks 24/7 hunt in Russell County. Where do you hunt? I live in Phenix City and hunt near Salem, Al. Have hunted in Seale and over near Hurtsboro.

We're right on the Barbour/Russell line. About 20 minutes north of lakepoint. Been on the same property for close to 30 years

Sounds about right. You hunt north of there now? It's amazing much the rut timing can differ from us even driving 20/30min away in any direction. Really a unique area of the state in that respect.

I hunt in Marengo County (Demopolis, Linden, and Sweet Water) Marengo was about the best in the state before soy bean fields turned into pine plantations. Pines don't have very much protein.

Will track deer in Marengo, Greene, Sumter, Wilcox, Perry, Hale counties.

The guy I hunt with is down camping for two days while I work. He went yesterday and spooked one walking in and got blowed at a couple times during his morning hunt. Afternoon hunt was a blank too. He is hunting this morning and heading back to Trussville tonight where he lives. I live 20 minutes from the lease and he has to drive 2 hours and 15 minutes to hunt. He is now retired and can hunt all he wants. Usually comes down for 3 days weekly.

Same as Dallas County. At first we thought it was gonna be great to have more cover for deer. Then we noticed most of our mature bucks were growing less than 130" of antler. Nowadays, if you kill a pope and young buck you are lucky.

Went this morning and hunted to about 11:00 AM to no avail. Had one come up behind me and blew about 10 times. Really fidgety. Thought I was hunting the wind correctly but maybe thermals got me. Had to see me move.

Have to take care of those does that like to blow at you. Usually quit after you send one through the pump station. Good luck getting after em!!! I'll be headed up to camp on Tues but just for a couple days. Going to squeeze a few hunts in and try to get another freezer queen or finally some horns with the bow. Just hope it ain't raining the entire 2 days.

Made it back to Tampa this evening. Only got to hunt 1 time, which was yesterday morning. Had 2 shooter bucks walk by me in some tall sage grass where you could only see their horns. They went to 70 yards and stood there fighting for 15 min. Was an awesome show for sure. If they do that next weekend with a rifle in my hands,I'll definitely get us some points

Maybe you will get a crack at them. I am in a stand with my 10 y/o right now. He has gotten an 8 point the last two youth seasons so we are hopeful for this weekend.

Going for my first sit of the season tomorrow morning! Hopefully they move, I’m going on my neighbors property where it’s gotta be a good one if I shoot! But fingers crossed I just see some!

Have only been 2 times and shot a blank each time. Wanted to go tomorrow but it looks like a wash out. Got some time off coming up around Turkey Day and hope to be in the woods quite a bit more.

I'm in the process of setting up a Barnett Whitetail Hunter II crossbow. I couldn't find my Grim Reaper heads for a crossbow so I picked up some Rage Hypodermics. Hopefully they will get the job done like my Grim Reapers have been known to do.

At the lease yesterday repairing a fence the meth heads had destroyed. Got a text from my hunting partner who was bow hunting across the road from me. He had just bought a new Matthews and was dying to try it out. And it worked. He had a buck on the ground and needed help pulling him out. He was a nice 8 point weighed about 150 pounds.

White oaks were all over the place big as your thumb where he shot him. I will be there early A.M. tomorrow. Didn't pull the trigger last year and am very anxious to rectify that problem.

Went yesterday to no avail. No deer for me. My hunting buddy saw 3 and was using a bow but they would not cooperate. but I wish turkey season was in. I saw 17 and my buddy saw 27. We were about a mile apart and do not believe they were the same turkeys based on the times we saw them

Great job guys. Wish I could help. Hunted all day yesterday and saw 1 spike and 2 little does. Had errands to run today but trying again in the morning.

Beautiful morning. Had to walk 3/4 of a mile to get to where I wanted to hunt due to wind. However, no rain and no deer. Did see a black/silver coyote briefly but unable to get on it for a shot.

Went this morning and saw a decent 8 point. Was looking down a fire break for a minute or two. Looked back right and saw a decent 8 point about 75 yards beside a pine starring me down. My gun was across the stand on safety. I move my left hand as slowly as possible to the gun pushing it off safety. The buck drops down a little and runs like a leopard to the right, never to be seen again.

Never saw where he came from but saw where he ran.

Dang!! Hopefully you can get on him again. I'll be headed back up after Christmas trying to catch them in rut then. Saw a few good ones last weekend cruising, but none would be upgrade bucks for the contest,so I held off the trigger. Did snap some pics and videos.

Saw 2 does Friday right after the rain stopped and the winds started. A mother and her baby but wasn't able to get on the mother. Went Saturday till noon and saw nothing. Our rut is normally a week before Christmas and a week after. No evidence of rutting activity. I told my hunting partner yesterday we have no deer so no rutting activity.

Been out of work for 2 weeks and return tomorrow for 1/2 day before resuming Thursday full time. Just hate we had all the rain we had which really hampered my time in the woods and the fact that our deer usually rut now and we have seen little or no physical evidence what few deer we are seeing are doing anything.

Not normally what I would shoot, but boy has it been a rough season and only been able to hunt about 6 times this season with maybe 2-3 hunts left... glad to have some horns and some meat!

Also I saved the heart out of it... I keep seeing people post about cooking them, so I’m going to give it a try, once I figure out how they’ve preped it and cooked it

So when posting a picture first upload to which ever site you use, then copy URL.... you first go to full editor in bottom right... then you click on the picture upload in top center beside the emoji... it then pops up where you upload your URL, and says (http:// ) you delete all that then paste your URL. It should work then. Or that’s how it works on mine... I use an iPhone

Heading out in the morning. Our deer are getting active . It's about time they are about 2 weeks past schedule . Would like to put some good horns on the ground and not a doe or spike.

Only afew more sits for me. I plan on shooting a doe if I can see one somewhere i can get my truck too... I hunt alone, most of the time and ain’t dragging a doe far., nor asking for help to get one out.

I hurt my left arm several months ago and have little strength in it. Plan on seeing the doctor as soon as the seasons over. Saying all that to say last Saturday when I shot that doe that weighed only 108 pounds, I did not have the strength to load her in the basket on my 4 wheeler. Glad my hunting buddy was there for assistance. Year before last, I loaded to bucks, each weighing a little over 180 pounds.

Where is Dora? I will be glad to help you load.

Hunted this morning and saw a small 4 and a huge coyote we call Wolf. The 4 point was too small and I could not get on Wolf to take a shot.

Thanks man i believe it’s a good ways from you, it’s about 20 minutes north of Birmingham.. I’m in a club that has about 3200 acres of pines hills and hollows... I’ve messed up and shot a doe one time in one of my spots I love to hunt well off the beaten path, thought I was gonna die getting her out by myself. Want make that mistake again.

Thanks for the offer though

Gonna try an all day hunt either Friday this week or next Monday. I can’t make up my mind which day... haven’t done one of these in years... gonna pull out all the old tricks. Gonna try some rattling around late morning and do a little walking, but gonna hunt the same stand most of the day.. but staying in the woods all day, I’m excited about it, hopfully it turns out productive

Good luck man. I got one more trip in me-the last 5 days of the season. Hunted this past weekend and shot a doe,and then Sun morning,I saw a sure enough good one about 50 yards from me; jumped up out of some sage thicket after I had hit the grunt call. The wind was blowing a constant 25-30mph where I was at 38 degree. I honestly think the buck was bedded there the whole time I walked in and climbed my tree, and just jumped when he heard the grunt. I had his horns in the crosshairs the whole time as he walked in the head high grass. He just never offered me a clear shot. Same stand I busted that one opening day on too. It's been a little honeyhole for me.

Best to you guys. I went Saturday and took my 9 year old grandson. I told him I would not take him again because he ate all the snacks and drank all the colas. Saw crows, squirrels and heard owls and turkeys but no deer but had a wonderful time . We walked around and rode the roads looking for signs and prints and he now knows what a deer print is.

May try and go for a couple hours one morning but hopefully will go again Saturday. Thinking about an all day sit.

Going behind my house in the morning! It’s just a hit or miss spot... last season I had 2 huge ones on camera there all season, then this season, I haven’t got really any bucks on camera... it’s just gonna be a perfect wind for the back field and I haven’t hunted this section but twice this season. Maybe something big will cruise through..

Good luck man!! Wishing I was up at camp for this cold weather, but I'm stuck in Tampa til the 4th. Itll probably get hot and rainy with a south wind for the last week. Y'all can go ahead and blame me. It's literally been a south wind and garbage weather every trip I've been up for this year. Screwing all my stand setups up

Awesome! I ended up not going behind the house.. stayed in with my little boy so wife could sleep. I’m in for an all day sit tomorrow in a spot I’ve never hunted but in the mornings... maybe it’ll be productive...

I think to get your post to show up as a pic and not a link, you need to delete the https:// first in the url box before pasting your link... that’s what I have to do to get mine to work

I had a great all day sit yesterday. Seen a huge buck just across the property line about 50 yds and dang it was tempting, but I’ve been trying to do the right thing more in my days so I did what was right. Also seen 5 does a spike and a small 7pt. That’s a big day for where I hunt, it was a good day just not as productive as I would’ve liked, atleast I know I’m in the right area for a big one

Good that you held off. Gotta put yourself in the other guys shoes. How would you have felt if he shot him 50 yds on your side.

Hunted yesterday to no avail. Saw nothing. My hunting buddy saw nothing hunting but jumped 4 near the truck of all places while walking out. Very disappointing season. more on that later

I have to hold off on the points for your deer Slingshot, I can't see 9 points on it. I need another pic if you don't mind.

Trying to count the small drop in the left side. If it doesn't fly it doesn't fly. But it's over a half inch.

I didn't have the best of seasons either but got to hunt with two of my grandsons and was able to let one get a shot on a doe and then saw me shoot one and we together pulled it out of a ditch, loaded it on the 4 wheeler and drove it to the processor.

Are the final totals in? If they are, our team is short 13 points for Slingshots 8 pointer. We wouldn't win anyway, but its soothes the agony of defeat a little:)

By the way, SlippinJR, you did a marvelous job running the tourney this year. Give yourself a raise!!!!
