Water is down 3.5’. I have been catching 7-12 on Carolina rigs and 3xd. Not much for size though. Friday I had fish schooling all around me and wouldn’t hit nothing. Only managed two fish by 9:00. The bite has really shut down after sun gets up over trees good.

Throw a spoon on them?

I did not try a spoon. I’m not sure I even still own a spoon. It’s one of those baits I get hung up when it hits the bottom. I break them off and don’t buy anymore. I probably should but I’m not very good with one. Never even fished with anyone that threw one except a man that would drop a castmaster straight down and jig it up and let it fall. He caught more drum on that bait than I’ve ever seen

When I’m around schooling fish on Smith that won’t bite anything I usually catch them on a spoon. I very seldom let it go to the bottom. I cast it at fish as they break the surface. I like the war eagle spoon in 1/2 or 7/8oz silver. You can cast them a mile. I throw mine on 12# flouro, I have tried 10# but it breaks to much casting it. I change the ewg treble to a round bend the same size to cut down on toungue hooking as many. I would also try a duo realis spy bait. They are very productive on schooling fish this time of year.

Zkd22,
I bought two war eagle 1/2oz spoons. You said you don’t let it go to the bottom. How do you fish it?

You can throw in a school and rip it or let it flutter through them.

If it is really active on surface I will cast it at them. Literally try to hit them. I will let it free spool for a second or 2. Then engage reel and rip it, pause, rip it again. I have also caught a lot casting it and burning it in. Hold your thumb on spool if you have to set the hook while reel is not engaged. Don’t ask me how I know lol
