What's going on with Wheeler these days? Probably be up there the next couple of weekends. Curious about the water levels and the state of the hydrilla there. Fish still offshore or have they moved in the creeks?

I'm on a wheeler lake fb page. Someone was asking the same question the other day...guy replies that he had just been on the lake and it was still wet! I don't know about where the fish are, but the water is still wet. Least according to that guy! I will say that the lake is up and they are moving lots of water. More than likely...any hydrilla trying to get established has been washed down to or thru the dam. Crying shame what tva did to the lake.

Yeah. The hydrilla has always been hit or miss on that lake.

What did TVA do to the lake?

Any shoreline grass on this lake? I know there are a bunch of lily pads up Flint.

when the milfoil left so did the fishing. it sucks. You might find some fish in Flint around the stump rows.

There is some shoreline grass in places, not in others. Dept of Interior/refuge folks smoked a lot of those lily pads up in flint 2-3 years ago...gone. I know there are still fish there and you just have to find them. But back in the 90's...I could even go catch 20+ lb sacks regularly. That was before the electronic age...bout all we had was a half right depth finder. Sure, these pros can come catch a couple 20lb bags in a tourney...after they paid a local to find them and keep up with em for a month. It's been beat to death, I know...but I still don't understand why they killed it all in the stump flat between the rr tracks and nuclear plant? That wasn't rec water for the pleasure boaters...I just don't get it. Some say that it was chems released by the plants there in Decatur. Don't see that either. There was foil all back against the refuge on the east side of hwy31 and north of the channel. No way chems release by 3m/bp/hexel etc worked back upstream to those remote areas (even outside of normal current area). They've also said it was climate/water level issue. Funny, it was (and had been) vibrant and growing and healthy...then gone. And yet now, I think they have a pretty good stand of milfoil down below Wilson dam? They better enjoy it while they have it is all I can say.

Its pure foolishness to think the fish "are there" Don't you understand fish are like deer. fingerlings, fry and, fawns need somewhere to hide until they can fend for themselves. Can you imagine the amount of tax dollars those morons spend destroying a once vibrant lake? Are you aware that most of the guys that spray that stuff end up with cancer? But remember it's not toxic to human consumption. I think it also kills most small like living in the grass. JMO, but once the grass is gone so is most of the fishing. I suggest you guys start dumping Christmas trees this Christmas. I'd also go to Guntersville pad fields and gather seed pods.

Going to g'ville and getting sprigs won't do any good. One would think some would flow thru the dam and take root. Reckon how that got started in pickwick? Maybe tva don't want it around the nuclear plant?

They'd have to at least go up to Scottsboro to find pads. I don't fish them or hunt for them so there may be some where I don't know they are, but the only patch that I did know about around the south end of the lake got nuked by TVA about a month ago.

Where is this? I was looking at some backwater stuff on the satellite maps today.

Racoon creek and the back of North Saulty always had pad fields. I don't know if they currently do.
