I’ve always been a Lowe’s guy myself because they seem to have always had more help in the store, but I’ve noticed the last few trips they are short staffed too now. And the ones they have working there don’t know anything about their department.

I mostly shop Lowes, but that is because it is what we have. I prefer they not “help” me while i’m in the storr shopping as 99% or them don’t know jack about what they are selling.

I'm usually looking for something to do something that it wasn't intended to do.
And I usually don't know what it is until I spot it. So they can rarely help me anyway.

Lowes hands down unless your buying paint.

That Behr primer plus paint is really good IMO.

If you need a 5' piece of trim, you can get one at Home Depot. At Lowes, you have to buy the whole 8' piece of trim. Behr Paint is great from Home Depot, Valspar from Lowes sux! The only thing I buy at Lowes is tools, they stand behind the tools they sell.

Lowe’s except paint or plumbing (Lowe’s plumbing department is terrible).

anything heavy that I will need help loading I get from Home Depot. Lowes help sux.

I bought 30 8" cement blocks from HD. Parked by the stack, went in and paid, they sent three guys out to load it for me.

Lowes, not so much. SOBs will stand there and watch you load stuff even after you ask for help.

They're equal distance for me(Tigertown). Typically I'll go to Home Depot.

Usually Lowes because it's more convenient to my house. I was there today. It was a lot more expensive than my walmart trip but much quicker.

A guy offered to help me load lumber on the cart. I don't want their help doing that. EVER. Now concrete blocks? Yeah they can help, but they are usually nowhere to be found then.

Used to be Lowes, Now, Home Depot because they have the self checkout and rarely a line. Lowes will have one register out of 20 open, if they had self checkout I would go there more often.

It’s a trick question. The answer is neither.

Whoever is cheaper. I find lowes cheaper on electrical and wood. Lowes also has 10% off pro accounts from time to time vs the normal 5%

I agree with this statement. Probably for different reasons though.

I'm always creating some crazy game or some sort of cheap way to fix something around the church for youth ministry stuff, anytime someone asks if I need help and I explain it to them, they just stare at me.

I go to Lowe's, it is a lot closer, and I can get my 10% military discount also.

I use Home Depot. I like their Military Discount program better and the Lowe’s in Montgomery is ALWAYS short staffed.

True. I only shop at Lowes when I need something and the mom and pops are closed. I buy my lumber at Ross Graden or Discount.

I bought a dryer today at Lowes. Had to have one. TODAY. As the non clothes washer of my house it is my responsibility to get her the tools she needs, when she needs them.

This for sure! At Home Depot you just have to show your military ID to receive their discount. Now at Lowe's you have to fill out paperwork and get on every mailing and email list they have and the ones they sell your information too, also. Also much better customer service here (Dothan) at Home Depot then at either Lowe's in the area.

Our Madison HD is pretty good with what I need. Really it goes back to when I was a NASCAR fan several years ago. I liked Stewarts (HD) attitude, and didn't like Jimmy Johnson (lowes). Them days are over and I go where the sale is.

Home Depot seems to be better if your a contractor or a do it yourselfer. Lowe's seems more set up for people putting shelves in their closet or hanging curtains in an apartment.

I seem to be able to find more help at the local HD. Therefore, they are the first stop when it comes to hardware. If I have time, I shop the internet for some things. Bought 50# of deck screws for a little more than half of what Lowes and HD wanted. Same identical screw.

Lowes is the only place that will cut glass at 9:00pm. Valuable information to know right there.

Lowes. The last i checked they had a better military discount than Home Depot and I try to support those who support the military. I believe they both give a 10% discount but Home Depot has a $ limit.

I usually go to Lowe's for the simple reason it is MUCH closer than Home Depot. And I hate that, because the Lowe's in Northport is habitually terrible, from a service standpoint. Like pulling teeth to find someone if you need help finding something, and like Fred said, they're not going to help you load something up. They actually told me once they're not allowed to due to "liability" reasons. Whether that's true or not, I don't know.

I usually pick up stuff at the local hardware stores if I can but I'll go to Lowe's every now and then to pick up odd and end stuff. I dont shop a home depot because cullman doesn't have one and I'm not driving 40 mins to the nearest one.

Yep. We have two local hardware stores in Vestavia; Cahaba Hardware and Rocky Ridge Hardware. I'll go to either one of those first. Better service and reasonable prices. Only go to the big box stores when I need something they don't care like lumber or ceiling fans.

Mostly Lowes, got one right down the road from work so if I have anything I need to do on my off days I’ll buy it online and do the store pick-up and have them get the stuff for me then pull up front and load it.

I mainly go to Lowes, because there's one in Trussville, Leeds, Gadsden, Ft. Payne and Rome, Ga. Most of the places I am near when I need something from a place like that, however I have started to go to Home Depot more. I think in some stuff they have a better selection than Lowes. Plus home Depot carries all kinds of stuff online that Lowes doesn't even have a clue about and you can get it delivered free to Home Depot.

Both give me a military discount.

If I just need some odd ball piece or something I like to go to Ace hardware. Most of those places have had very helpful people. Of course Lowes can vary greatly in the helpful scale. Most Lowes the workers either don't know or don't care or both, however the Ft. Payne Lowes has some good folks who are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. By far my favorite Lowes.

I've had that conversation with both Home Depot and Lowe's:

Them: "Looking for something?" or "finding what you need?" or "Need help?"

Me: "I'm 'ciphering' a project around the house...so it's all up here (pointing to my head), I appreciate the offer but you better just run away while you can"

The idots will look puzzled.
The witty will laugh and then leave.
The dumb will start asking questions about the project so when I explain it they eventually become confused, get quiet, and wish they never asked.
The brave or secret redneck engineer will actually understand the concept and offer suggestions...this is a very rare breed and on endangered species list.

im in lowes 2 or 3 times a day most days for work stuff. sign up for a lowes business card and get 5% off every purchase. 10% some days.

I don't think it can be piggy backed with military though, ive heard the question asked.

This ... I go to Lowe's more often simply because it's closer, but sometimes HD has things Lowe's doesn't

Same here. Our closest HD is in Fairfield if they have it you better get there before someone steals it. I knew some folks that retired and worked there part time and that store used to have the highest theft loss rate in the country so that's not a joke.

Lowe's but Home Depot has upped their game the last couple of years. I used to only go to HD if I had to. I check online to see if they have what I want any cheaper now. Lowe's is just closer.
