Even though Hank and others have been a big help, I still consider myself a novice at this game. Two questions: How do you keep turkeys out of foothold traps? I have a couple of logging roads that trail cameras show lots of coyote and bobcat activity. The same roads have a lot of turkey traffic. Is there a way to set the traps to target the predators and protect the turkeys. I started trapping to help the turkeys. I don't want to make one a sitting duck for a coyote. The second question is how do I preserve raccoons until I have time to process them? I've read of folks putting them in a garbage bag and freezing them whole. Can you do this and not get a lot of fur slippage? Thanks for your help.

For the turkeys, if you run 4-5 pounds of pan tension it shouldn’t be a problem. You will miss some coons and possums, but will still get the cats and coyotes. You can freeze your critters whole, but fur is not worth anything this time of year. Once it cools off, I just keep mine in a shady spot until I have time to skin at night.
