My 7 year old was wondering up in the mountain on our land and brought back all this fruit. I ain't got a clue what it is? It came from a small tree that has flaky bark. My research makes me think wild plum?

Yep, plum. Growing wild, I'm amazed you found that many ripe. Wildlife usually keeps pretty close tabs on stuff like that, and when it's ready, it disappears, like overnight!

My son found them on our little trail to our feeder. I've walked by it a dozen times in the last few weeks and never saw them but my 7 year old did. It's about 50 feet from my back porch.
