Looking at a Liberty. I have driven rentals before and liked them but that was on the coast in Wa state and only for a few weeks. Anyway, 3.x liter 6 cylinder. 4wd. Around 145k miles. Anything to worry about. Common breakage or faults? Thanks

I'm not a Jeep/Dodge fan for the most part so take this with a grain of salt but I think of Jeep Libertys as sorority girl Jeeps.
Common fault is that it's a MOPAR laugh

Well I am getting it for my daughter so sounds like she will be one of the “cool” girls. If she gets tired of it then I have me a an UTVfor the farm!

That's a useless opinion for the man. I'm sure he's grateful.

Against the competition, it falls short. Honda CRV, Nissan Xterra or Toyota Rav4 would almost certainly serve her better.

I’ve known a couple of folks that had them and they hated them. I can’t say what was wrong with the vehicles but neither kept them very long before they traded it.

I bought my daughter a 2002 Liberty 3.7 when she turned 16. Had about 160,000 miles on it when I got it. I did a timing chain at about 200k.
Window regulators going bad was a common problem. I bet I replaced 3-4.
The 3.7 is a peppy little motor. It does enjoy drinking the gas. I remember it had a small tank on it. 13-14 gallons if I remember correctly.

She drove this all way thru high school and her first 2yrs at college(400 miles away).

Came home one Christmas break and the motor took a dump at 239k. I put it on CL and within 12 hrs some UAB student from Egypt bought it from me for $1800. Yes $1800, I explained to him multiple times it needed a motor. I drove it to his apartment and got paid.

Overall for what I paid when I bought it and what we got out of it over the years it worked for me.

NO. I will never own another Chrysler product.

Sig Sauer, to hell and back reliable.

Whatever suits you just tickles me plum to death.

Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?

Back around 2003-2004 my wife had one as a company car. When a big rig passes you on the highway, it will damn near flip the thing over. I would lean towards a TOYOTA for a high mileage first car

Now you offer something useful, before it was just your useless opinion. That's all I'm saying.

I have a 2010 at work and hate it. I can't name a single thing that is a positive or even close to a Chevy or ford. It drinks gas and oil. It uses a quart of oil every 3K and the dealer claims that is normal use.

I put $100k miles on one in early 2000s. No mechanical issues but I put 6 windshields in. Angle of the wind shucks it pretty straight up and down and was a rock magnet

Poor fuel economy and poor reliability would lead me to stay away from one for my daughter.

Man, I hope you have a mechanic in the family. I'm not kidding. Keep your daughter from being stranded on the side of the road and get her a RAV4 or a CRV.
