I enjoy watching those hog killing videos with the night vision optics. My question is why in the heck don't they ever use a suppressor when shooting them? After the first shot, they all scatter like quail and it makes picking others off very difficult. Having said that, my next hog will be my first so I don't know much about hunting them, but it seems if you could quieten the shot, one could kill a lot more in the group. Thoughts?

Most are using suppressors. A rifle with a silencer is still loud enough to scare off game. It’s not like what you see in the movies. Lol

One advantage is that with a suppressor, they don't know where the shot came from. They hear the bullet smack their buddy next to them and scatter; I've had several run straight to me. Even with subsonics, the sound of the bullet hitting will scatter them, but they don't usually go far. Shoot momma first and any young ones will usually hang around and come back eventually. I shot 5 Saturday, just waited them out.

You mean it doesn't just go "psst"?
Damn. That's disappointing.
I really love the Hollywood habit of putting suppressors on a revolver.

I have looked all over for one of those 25 shot revolvers like in the movies but I haven’t had any luck. Lol

Can't help with a 25 shot, but here's an 18...

Well darn. I was hoping to see one of those videos where they just mow down about 20 of those things at a sitting. About the most they get is 3 (if that) out of a big group.

I use a suppressor on a 6.5 Grendel but I also shoot supersonic so they hear the crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier. And they scatter to the ends of the earth, at least the ones that don't get a bullet.

You can shoot subsonic but that is a slow bullet and though it would be much quieter, they are still going to run. And then you are lobbing slow moving bullets at them. 1100 feet per second vs. 2500 fps. Much less penetration and knock down.

I do like the suppressor cause I am particular about saving what hearing I have left and being quieter you can really hear the bullet slap the pig.

But there's nothing magical about suppressors as some might think.

Also, most ammos are built to mushroom and they don't perform as built at those slow speeds.

That's why you shoot'em in the ear hole.
